Yeah, when I had three dogs and a cat it was too much, we had to give two of the dogs to other owners. One ended up happy on a farm, the other ended up happy with a lady. I saw the one that ended up with the lady two years ago and the dog recognized me. I was so happy
I have a nice story I think youād enjoy.
Shortly after my mom died, my dad tried to give our family dog, Ginger, to a shelter. One of my elementary school friendsā parents used to look after Ginger when we went on vacations. They simply loved Ginger so much, weād bring her to them, and theyād look after her for free. Even when she chewed their floor molding, they would just laugh it off. Anyway, when my dad tried to give her to a shelter, I slipped away and put Ginger on a leash and walked her to my friendsā house. I was crying my eyes out saying how I couldnāt bear to see Ginger go to a shelter and that I wanted them to have her. They were quite sympathetic, and took Ginger. I walked home bawling.
8 years later, I reconnected with my friend, and found out Ginger was still alive and well. A little arthritic, but doing well. I eagerly went to his house, and there was Ginger, gnawing on a bone as usual. She slowly got up and walked over to me as fast as she could, tail wagging so hard her butt was swinging side to side. She gave me kisses galore, and obviously remembered me by at least smell, if not by sight. Ginger lived a good life, and passed away peacefully some time after that. Ah hell, now I have this weird feeling in my throat.
Awww!
Glad Ginger got to live a good life.
I had this cat, her name traslated to english was Little Straws because she used to play with straws when she was little. She was my best friend for 13 years, the best animal I have ever met. So sweet and with a personality you know? We had an amazing connection.
Once she was living with me in my country side home and she was in heat and got away, was missing for a whole year. I was heart broken, didnāt have a chance to say goodbye. One year later I get a call from a friend saying he found her. She just had kittens and wasnāt eating, she was really depressed. I went over there imediately and when she saw me she meawed, and let me closer, was all over me and then went to get something to eat from the bowl and left me with her kittens. We kept one of her kittens, itās Picci, my current cat.
She lived a lot of years until she died with cancer. I cried for a week straight because she took her last breath in my arms.
Still hurts to think about it.
Later on I had two amazing cats and they both ran away, one was coming back to eat but was increasingly becoming more of a bad ass street cat until he eventually stopped coming to the house, and the other ran away also in her heat and I never saw them again. I was psychotic back then and I blame myself a lot for their disappearances. I know itās not my fault, theyāre cats, but still. I shouldāve looked harder, I got hospitalized and moved to my moms house so I donāt go to that area anymore.
cats have cancer?..wowā¦sad for her.
This choked me up a bit. Pets are family too. You sound like you tried to do the right thing by your cats. Cats can be a little thick-skulled and do what they please sometimes. Canāt blame yourself too much if they take off when theyāre outdoor cats. Itās their deeply embedded instincts at work, and theyāre more independent than dogs. All a dog wants is love and treats and petting. Cats are a little more standoff-ish.
All the poor adorable animals⦠
Thanks. I was psychotic and I donāt remember things well enough. Some people said I shouldāve taken better care of them for them not to run off, but I remember I did. I bought them all the best food, they were spoiled with love and affection and I played with them everyday. I think those people were just messing with my mind to be honest.
Something Iāve ended up doing just as a matter of course is rehabilitating animals. Iāve had almost every iteration of reptile you can imagine (200-pound tortoises, so SO many different species of snakes and lizards), bunnies, cats, dogs, and birds. Iām pretty skilled at handling animals of all shapes and sizes. You wouldnāt believe the level of knowledge required to care for some of the extremely exotic species of snakes. Been bit over a hundred times, easily. Been bit by a Burmese Python too (you know, those 200 pound, 15-foot long snakes that are taking over the Everglades). Some of the animals Iāve handled were too far gone by the time I got to them. Iāve fixed up so many poorly cared for Ball Pythons (probably one of the tamest, easy-going snakes there are - hence their popularity and subsequent poor husbandry), itās ridiculous. About the only animals I havenāt handled are ferrets and guinea pigs. Not counting livestock here, such as goats or chickens.
I put seeds out for the birds and ofcourse the squirrels and chipmunks come to eat it too. They stuff their little cheeks full and then they go and bury a bunch of it around my yard. In late summer and fall, I get bunches of mostly sunflower sprouts growing here and there as a result. Itās cute because the squirrels will go around nibbling on the sprouts like they planned it that way. Little farmers.
This made me laugh. Not just because itās outwardly funny, but it DOES kind of seem like they have a big scheme going on. Who knows? They might be plotting to take over the world! ![]()
Squirrel song
It seems pretty smart, right?!
i just had a galah
( bird ) hanging of my hand, it bit meā¦and did not let go
i was trying to save itā¦
take care
Holy Santa Fe. If her army is anything like that one she could probably take on the whole east cost of she wanted.
Ha! When my Mom was alive she also had a colony of raccoons too!
Actually, she fed every animal that came into her yardāalso the neighbor`s~~~
**That`s a great story!
**
last winter I dumped a whole box of pecans out in the yard to feed the squirrels and it was so soothing to watch all of them come and bury the pecans in the yard. I wish I had more to feed them now. there is a squirrel family living in my attic. I donāt tell the landlord even though they squabble and skitter around the ceilings of my house. haha.
Sorta like this one⦠But bot quite as zonkered out - I wanted to open the window + take a picture, but didnāt want to disturb.
Reminds me of Emily dickinson -
