It is the Friday evening again

I am spending this evening alone as usual, I probably go to sleep quite early at 8-9 PM, this is the way it has been for many years, I like to wake up early on Saturdays and go riding my bicycle and visit the market place where they sell all kinds of nature products such as cowberries, there is a lot of this berry in the forest in this year, anyway I am now listening to some patriotic songs.

I had to google it.

How can one tell the difference between cowberries and the ones that look just like them but are poisonous?

I have not been picking these cowberries/lingonberries for the long time, but in the forest you just know what is not poisonous.

Hmm… probably can tell from the shape of the leaf.

You don’t just know
It’s either trial and error or previous knowledge

When one lives one’s childhood in Finland and picks berries from the forests one just learns what is right and what is not. It is the same thing with mushrooms. There are poisonous and not poisonous mushrooms. In this year there have been a lot of berries and mushrooms and they still sell strawberries in the market place although it is already September.

13 years ago when I lived with my father, I went to the local forest to pick mushrooms and then my father cleaned these. After this I fried these mushrooms in our self-made wine and then put fried mushrooms to containers and then put these containers to our freezer from where we took mushrooms regularly during the winter. We had a lot of berries in the freezer too.

That’s interesting. Here there’s workshops for everything nowadays, to pick berries, mushrooms, medicinal plants.
