I can’t do boring, repetitive work. For instance, I can do strategy development as part of my work for hours, but when it comes to downloading data for a couple of hours, I lack the motivation. I think I have less dopamine. Is sz too much dopamine or too little dopamine? Or, do I have ADD at the same time, along with SZ, that in certain parts the brain has too less dopamine, while, in others, it has too much dopamine?
Thats what sz is according to my last psychiatrist.
Those are complicated questions with questionable answers, but I will try.
A prevalent theory is that schizophrenia is caused by an overactive dopamine system in the brain. So “too much dopamine” would probably be the closest to the correct answer.
If you are on meds, however, it could well be that you have too little dopamine activity because your dopamine receptors are blocked. It’s all very complicated but that’s about the best I can do to answer your questions. I hope that helps, and I hope I have everything correct.
I see. So, it may be the medications lowering the dopamine.
This problem goes back a long while, much before diagnosis. I was always considered lazy. Medications may be worsening it…
I wouldn’t discount Aziz’s answer though. Negative symptoms of sz may be caused by too little dopamine in certain brain areas ,even without meds, where positive symptoms are caused by too much dopamine in other areas.
Like I said, it’s complicated. I always hesitate to try answer these dopamine questions because the science is so complicated.
