Do you also suffer from depression after psychosis?
Hi @stefan24
I had major depression after the second relapse. So the fifth year I had major PTSD and depression which lasted more than a year. Now I am a lot better. But I still have flashbacks.
That’s the way it is for me. I’m bipolar and I usually experience a depression after a serious psychotic break
No, not always. I have been psychotic many times without subsequent depression. I’m sza.
I’m sz and don’t usually have depression after psychosis.
I’m depressed about the fact that I experienced psychosis, if that makes any sense.
I had 2 times diagnosed psychosis. Both with long and painful depression afterwards. My advice is to keep busy as much as you can. Now that I started working I don’t have time for bad thoughts and feelings
A hospital pharmacist told me that it’s very common to experience depression after psychosis. @stefan24
I am diagnosed with SZA/bipolar and experienced depression during my last psychotic break two years ago.
It’s not uncommon.
I’ve finally come to accept that I will probably always be depressed because of the constant food cravings that I now have to fight, and also the chance of psychotic relapse. But I think accepting that fact is a good first step.
Negatives after an episode are common too.
Me too I always feel depressed after psychosis for a few months .
I’m SZA, after my last psychotic episode last Sep my pdoc said to me its normal to feel depressed after psychosis.
Always? No. But psychosis is very traumatic. Doctors usually advise to stay on the medication to prevent a relapse which are more common during the first year if one stops medication much less relapse on medication. Like in all traumatic experiences, depression and PTSD may develop. Dealing with the hit to health, job and relationships is hard and can take a toll on your mental well being. This can be by multiple mechanisms. Chronic illness can lead to frustration, social isolation and work dysfunction leading to loss of self-esteem and economic hardship. In addition, medications used to treat the illness can cause fatigue and depression.
I never get depressed anymore, with or without psychosis. I have no feelings at all. I’m too medicated for that.
After I hear voices etc (get psychosis) I find the next day I wake up depressed, so yes, I get depression afterwards too. Don’t know if there is always depression after psychosis but its a norm with me.
Depression after psychosis is normal for me.
