Is therapist a good friend ?

Sometimes… But mostly there are boundaries between “client” and “friend”…

Therapists can genuinely care for us and want to help us, but it’s important to still remember it is a job to them.
Like @YayaC said, there are boundaries between therapist and friend.

I have a friend who becomes very friendly with her therapists, and then becomes wildly disappointed when they won’t see her outside of appointments, because she thought they were genuinely friends.
They are paid to help you, and while they really care about you, they have their own lives outside of work, and they’ve most likely been taught not to make their patients part of that.

It’s a very one sided sort of relationship. They are there to be friendly and help you and listen to you, but that’s literally what you’re paying them for.

In a true friendship there’s give and take. Sometimes you listen to them. You get to know who they are and what they like. These are things you’ll never learn about your therapist.
