It’s still gender neutral depending on regional culture.
Guys is also gender neutral.
I wonder why going gender neutral it’s always the masculine word and not the feminine.
Like no one would say hey gals in a mixed group.

The word I am referring to is a twist of a slur.
I’ve been called dude on this forum several times.
I never took it as an insult.
I thought it was short for dudle
I can’t stand hearing the word ‘dude’
My brother uses it all the time and I think it’s ridiculous when an older - middle aged man uses it all the time.
He most likely picked it up from his younger son my nephew.
Not at all.
Is there a reason why it should be perceived as such ?
My generation, the baby boomers used to use the word ‘man’ instead of dude.
Duuude. Where’s my car
Yea like @mars said, it depends on context, imo.
I use the word man often in speech
Oh my bad none of the words I’m thinking of are slurs. I didn’t read carefully enough.
Yeah I know I used a word not understanding the history of it I have only heard it in passing speech
If thats what ur referring to
I feel bad about it
