... is schizophrenia always get worse?

I am positive about my illness. I am way better than at my worst days. (Which were 2016-2017)
But… one woman today said - it almost always got worse. And I am thinking… actually, what if ? I know we are more suicidal and live less (because of certain physical diseases). But does symptoms for everyone gets worse with age ?
What is your experience? Do you got worse? How long you have SZA? Is it truth most of us get worse? :smiling_face_with_tear:
feeling paranoid now… i am happy because my life last few years is getting better. ((In some aspects)) and I am worried that after 10-20 years I will be only psychotic or way worse.:face_in_clouds::face_in_clouds:

I’ve heard that it gets better as you get older. In my experience it just gets worse. I’m only 25 though.

It’s been the same for me since I got on Abilify 9 years ago. No better no worse.

What my doctor says - it sometimes will be better sometimes will be worse. I believe you will get better☺️

No not at all, I got better over the years. First two I was delusional, these days most of my problems are residual.

The positive symptoms as a whole usually get better with time but the negatives like avolition and cognition gets worse, usually.
This is not always the case with everyone.
It varies from individual to individual

Also on ablify.
Well sometimes I think, am I better or am I the same. (Last 5 years when I am more or less stable and not psychotic)
Because some aspects now are better, for example relationships. But some, like concentration sometimes seems worse.

Also on 15mg last four or five months.
Ablify works best for me…

My ablify dosage varies, sometimes I am on 10mg and sometimes on highest dose, 30mg

I started out on 10mg, but it wasn’t enough, 15mg seems to be ok.

Abilify is a good med.

There’s some evidence that it doesn’t stop working like other meds.

Can I ask how long you feel better ?

And its not the most expensive one.
And I believe ablify ended my horror with first episode psychosis… I tried lots of medication - from olanzapine to quetiapine.
I also tried cariprazine - which is reaaally expensive and it was not so helpful as ablify.

How long it took? Two years from when it started. How long I have been feeling better, about 5 years now. I have hallucinations but no delusion or paranoia, I mostly ignore my voices and sometimes I have days without voices.

I don’t think my SZ has gotten better or worse. I have become so much better at managing it that I can pass as normal when needed and I consistently function at high levels.

DXed at 24. 54 now.

It’s gotten better for me. I have better cognition, no positive symptoms to speak of, and I was able to reduce my AP dose.

Great! Similar case
My psychosis took for ~ 1.5 year
And now better for almost 5 years. Sometimes I have symptoms, but overall I am… way better than during worst days
During worst days I was almost not able to say or write any logical sentence

The first six years when I was sick were the worst from 2013 until 2019. They were really bad to the point I tried to kill myself in 2015. I ended up surviving that suicide attempt and going to the psych ward and getting diagnosed with schizophrenia and put on meds but for the next few years I would stop taking my meds because I’d feel better then have to go back to the psych ward. In 2019 I asked for an injection and got put on Invega Sustenna and gradually improved. My life is much better now.

I got diagnosed with SZA in 2010 and the first 6 years were chaotic but things have settled since then.

I’ve had it for 5 years and I’m almost recovered fully now, so it may had just been a good stint of psychosis, but I would most of us get better over time according to statistics if you choose to believe

I would say we usually do though, be rare if u had the insidious kind, which gets worse.
