Is Santa Claus real

Santa is not real, he is a production of capitalism ideology and its ‘invisible arm’, a big machinery embodied in all those corporations that feed us with crap.

But elves, they are a real heroes, they make presents in a big chocolate factory and they do exist. :lollipop:

Hey, i know. I come from a former socialistic environment. We still watch its devastating metastases.

We had a socialist provincial government elected this spring. It has caused a lot of job losses. We had a leftist government elected federally a week or so ago and we’ve already seen our dollar drop. Going to be a long four years (or longer).

There is nothing wrong with giving gifts when it is Christmas, even small gifts, I have listened stories of some old men and how they got just a box of candies during the years of the 2nd ww, and they were happy with these candies. Giving is most important.

I want him to come visit! Is it safe?

You want the Russian Frostman to come and visit you?

I want to be Santa Claus’ personal trainer. He needs one.

He looks possibly dangerous. If he isn’t dangerous, then yes, I want him to visit! If he is dangerous, then I just want to borrow his hat and staff. No visit.

Something about this Russian Frostman, in Finnish. You can use Google’s translator.

PS. Like is for a condolence.
But seriously, idea of Santa is just an instrument of society’s symbolic power; and which society exactly probably belongs to another discussion.

Edit: and popular culture.
to illustrate what I mean @mjseu here is a short text with interesting title “Consumption, Coca-colisation, resistance- and Santa Claus”

Hah, and I thought that Slavic languages are hard.
But, of course, Santa Claus speaks English :sunglasses:

Symbolic power???, I am lost, do not quite get it, I am sure that little children do not to need hear this explanation why Santa Claus exists ??

This thread reminds me of an amusing youtube video I watched stating christmas is a pagan holiday, which I find interesting.

Of course, but they should be taught to question what they’ve been served by dominant culture.
