Is recovery possible for someone diagnosed with SZ

I’m still waiting for this to happen.

I am 52 I don’t know how old you are Shutterbug

I will be 56 this November. My coping skills have gotten better, but my symptoms are the same now as they were at the outset. Everything hurts more with my body and my overall energy is lower because of age, which makes the negative symptoms even harder to deal with now.

Can I ask what medication you are on?

Abilify made all the difference to me 2 months ago.

Really, recovery for me didn’t start until I was 51. I learned about recovery and started an appropriate medication for my recovery process!

I take it you’ve tried different meds and they don’t help much? Work has helped me too. Being a peer support specialist has helped me with my recovery purpose as it has given me a sense of purpose!

Abilify is what I use. We have to be careful though as we all have different brains and what works for me may not work for the next individual!

Vraylar, and for some time now. Geodon before that, it was my favourite med of them all.

I call it Disabilify. I had the worst time on that one. Had to ask the doctor to take me off after a couple of months.

Very true!

Been there and done it…

I like Geodon, taking it for many years, but the requirement to eat 500 calories with it is inconvenient.

What sort of symptoms were you experiencing if you don’t mind me asking?

It says online that Geodon is a schedule 1 drug This classification indicates that it is a potential drug of abuse . Glad we don’t have it in the UK.

Yes it is, but you’d have to be insane to use it for fun.

You would have problems taking it with you on foreign trips.

I don’t know how that all works so you are probably right. Geodon is also named Zeldox in other countries like Canada.

Unfortunately having schizophrenia restricts your movements abroad. We can’t relax and have holidays like “normal” people.

SZ symptoms or med side-effects? I have 24/7 auditory and tactile hallucinations. Delusional thinking. Command voices. Severe negative symptoms. This is on meds.

I feel for you shutterbug. All meds were tried right!

Why? It’s just annoying, it doesn’t stop me from doing anything I want to. My heart condition is more of a pain in the arse to live with.
