I think that happy music can be useful to counter depression.

Yes, it may change your mood indeed, but only for a while, it cannot help someone get over depression I think.

i actually find heavy metal or dark music helps me get out of depression. guess thats just what helps me personally. I resonate with the dark tones and i picture myself transmuting my depression to fade it out

I’ve read that sometimes it’s good to listen music that matches your mood. I guess really it depends on the individual response to it. I remember when I first slipped into midlife depression, I couldn’t listen to any music. I finally forced myself to put Boxer by The National on my iPod which is one of their less depressing albums and gradually upped the mood of each album. It really helped.

As they say - You are what you eat!

Problem is though one thing that’s really painful for me to hear or read etc is positive affirmations. My mind really has a great deal of trouble accepting it. I’d presume many would have that effect with happy music.

thats exactly what i do, i match music to my mood, its my way of acceptance

I just wouldn’t recommend The Downward Spiral by NIN, lol!

I think it’s one of many tools a person can use to battle depression. No one tool will do everything, but the right tool at the right time can provide a badly needed boost:

Such a positive influence to many

It’s interesting… music like med… very different for people.

Dark music puts me in a darker mind set. Some people can listen to dark stuff and it help them… it sinks me deeper.

I do need the lighter and happier music.
