@shutterbug I have heard some people say all people are artistic geniuses, even though I see a lot of people with subpar artwork. Is it because art is in the eye of the beholder?
I sure don’t have artistic genius. I can’t draw, paint, sculpt or do any other art well. I’m a fair writer but nowhere near genius level.
First off, I’m not a genius. Second, what talent I have came from studying the work of others and practicing on my own. We’re talking a lot of practice every day. It took me at least a decade to reach the point where I didn’t totally suck. I’m always reading about photography and learning about new tech and new techniques. I look at a lot of other photos and paintings to maintain my visual literacy.
I’d call you a genius photographer! I can’t take landscape or wildlife photographs as well as you!
Yet. In time you absolutely could.
I think artistic genius is more like when someone has a natural talent to do art. Like it’s ingrained in their DNA or something.
Even serial killers can do drawings and paintings, but that doesn’t make them artistic geniuses.
I think genius in all fields, needs hypersensitivity that is born-in.
It’s maybe not artistic, but son and ex have extraordinary taste and smell. I do not. Never could I experiment with food creatively and intuitively sense what a dish needs, and put together great tastes. As my son and ex would. I can read cookbooks every single day of my life. And still, people with their sense of taste and smell, would not be blown of their feet by my food. You can waste talent. But you can’t magically create it.
