I am a bit unsure wether or not to give this a try. Basically my only problems now are social anxiety and I am wondering if I should give it a try to see if it helps. I can imagine coming off the aps eventually, and it would be great if I could get somewhat control on my social anxiety. How has your personal experience been on anti depressants?
You should definitely give them a try. There’s no 100% chance that the first prescribed SSRI will work for you, but they surely have potential to treat anxiety. If we’re talking about anxiety, the drugs that made me most confident were paroxetine and escitalopram. Others just didn’t really work for me or even have made my condition worse. But it depends on a person if the drug will work or not. You should not be afraid of them. Remember, the first two weeks may worsen your condition, but after that you should be better. If it doesn’t work, you can discontinue them, with a help of your psychiatrist of course.
My partner takes an SSRI - Escitalopram. He suffers from Generalised Anxiety Disorder and Hypochondriasis. For him this medication has been a huge success. He rarely gets anxious anymore, and when he does get an attack, it is far less severe. I would give it a go.
nothing works like good old fashion exposure.but pills might help. i take 150mg of sertraline, I think it makes a difference
but really what help was confronting the anxiety and realising it’s a lie.
I tried sertraline and it made me hypomanic. I was on Efexor for a year and i think it helped against the ptsd/anxiety, though i didnt like how it numbed the rest of my feelings too and withdrawals were horrible. Both times i used only this, no antipsychotic or other meds. Efexor did help somewhat, but i wouldnt use it again, since side effects/withdrawals were so bad.
My old friend has social anxiety disorder/social phobia. He takes Citalopram and it helps him but not 100%, more like 50% improvement.
@anon98459728 He’s also seeing a psychologist and says that also helps him.
I don’t have access to anything like that at the moment.
I’ve heard a great review for sertraline. They became more social basically and more confident. Dunno if it was the sertraline per se but may have contributed at least.
I was on 100mg of Sertraline for about 4 months and it wasn’t working out.
I now take 150mg Pregabalin twice a day.
It has got rid of the constant physical feelings I was getting associated with my anxiety, but it does not stop panic attacks
Can’t SSRIs sometimes cause hallucinations?
I read this on Wikipedia. My Dr doesn’t want to prescribe any ssri, he only tried Wellbutrin, he doesn’t think I have depression or anxiety, just severe negative symptomes of sz.
He said Wellbutrin might help but it didn’t
