Is anyone else extremely triggered by Siri or Alexa?

I just realized that Alexa programming is part of my TV and am very upset.

I don’t know how to undo it and the thought of something listening to me all the time creeps me out and makes me anxious.

My phone is completely turned off when I’m not using it for that very reason.

Does anyone else hate this or am I being a drama queen?

As we saw in the cambridge analytica case the only way that that gigantic amount of data could be illegally used is by statistical automated processing, i.e. no real person will ever see it.

I don’t like it at all. I’m on android and you have to push the button to activate the voice assistant but I still don’t like it.

Creeps me out. I keep my phone turned off when not in use (“OK GOOGLE!”). I physically removed the microphone from my television and the camera is covered over on all devices with tape. I do admit that I like the Google integration while driving. VERY handy. Even if I make a point of not driving a lot.

I really don’t care anymore. I just won’t buy an iphone or Alexa.

I find them very triggering. But there isn’t much I can do. Anywhere you go, people will have automatic listening devices. I just try to tell myself that if they’re illegally recording data, they probably have so much of it that it has become useless and my voice will just get lost in the tide.

It is not delusional to think so. Just think people pay for those house spy boxes and it does record every word people say and designs adverts around it!

What a world where 1984 happens, and people pay for the privilege of being spied upon. It is crazy!

Personally, I was never worried about that stuff, but I have a degree of comfort with tech and information availability that most people don’t have. It’s funny. I’m not paranoid about real world dangers; I’m paranoid about the paranormal/supernatural ones.

I watched an anime where this guy was an information brooker (real job) and he had all this information on people because it was literally his job and he messed up their lives for fun. One time he got close to this gang member because he was paying him and then he initiated a gang war behind his back and got the gangster’s girlfriend kidnapped, and when he called the info guy for help he ignored his call and the girl got shot and was in the hospital for 2 years.

But yeah that was fictional.

It is not a sz thing. The technology is there for the mobile to isten to everything. I just had my fb friend say that he had a conversation about not getting sparrows and shooting them with air pellets. The very next day he had adverts on fb for an air rifle.

The technology exists and these things are happening to non sz people.

my parents got an echo dot as a gift and their fine with it. I was a little apprehensive about the voice recognition software maybe putting my voice out there.

when they move out I wont be getting another one.

I have turned Siri off on my phone but we just got Alexa and I am loving it.

I ask her the weather every time I will leave, makes my life much easier to be honest. But that is all what I am using her for. The weather :sunny:
