Is anybody else's fm radio this way?

i can’t stand to listen to fm radio anymore. here in cincinnati, it’s all mainstream radio. they’ve been playing the same songs over and over for 30 years. with like 10 new artists making it into air play each year. even the alternative rock station plays the same old stuff, with a couple breakout artists mixed in. i’ve heard like every song on the radio so many times, im sick of them all.

my favorite radio station sold and changed formats, so i no longer have a reason to listen to fm radio anymore. they were always playing new music.

it’s terrible, anybody else feel this way?

All the good stations are online and run by hobbyists now. Check out tunein.com or mytuner.com to start with.

Yeah, most of my local fm stations are garbage.

Our local oldies station was bought out by some corporate pricks, so now they play mostly eighties pop music.

I use TuneIn app on my cellphone.

We have an old university station that got kicked off campus. It’s got amazing programming and plays a lot of underground music of all forms. You can stream it online too and I listen to that exclusively. We do have one great fm radio station…4ZZZ is the business.

Delilah can be entertaining, John Tesh is interesting once in awhile, I like NPR some, an oldies station, and sometimes country. I still find a variety here in southwest Michigan.

there’s an old saying about cincinnati, that it is 20 years behind the times. when it comes to radio that is definitely the case.

I used to watch a tv show called “WKRP in Cincinnati” it was about a radio station.

But I agree. FM radio is pretty much as you described.

Also as @anon67051439 mentioned the “TuneIn” radio app is pretty good.

then when i get a job, they usually have the radio on and im listening to all the same old classic rock songs over and over again. or maybe they have it on top 40 and you hear the same songs every hour it seems like. it gets old in a hurry, i would rather work in silence than have to endure this, but of course i never say anything and just deal with it.

i’ve always enjoyed university radio. when i was in college i used to listen to the local college station, and here in the greater cincinnati area, i would always commute to and from work with one of the local university stations on. i would even stream it online, late at night, they were kickass, that was the fm station that sold and changed formats.

i just went to town with dad, we were in the car about an hour, and i went through the dial, and none of it, suited my tastes.

The problem is that they’ve stopped taking new station submissions. There are a lot of fantastic new stations that aren’t on TuneIn. Here’s the directories I’m listed on (there are more, I’m slacking), but I’d suggest trying these sites in addition to TuneIn:

If you have Droid for your phone, the Repla.io app is hands-down the best IMO.

I have a Madison rock station you may like. The morning show is Johnny and Beyotch in the morning, they’re great.

It was a trip in the morning originally Johnny and Greg in the Morning and Beyotch was an intern starting back in 1997 when I started listening. She became main show around 2003 when I graduated high school. She’s a very open lesbian and just awesome, my kids love her, but we miss Greg since he retired last August and it was tradition on the way to school to listen to them.

I Have About Three Different Local Stations I Listen to Frequently.

I Sometimes Scan The Entire Spectrum For Something Unique.

Most Stations Have About a Loop of 35 Maybe 40 Different Artists.

It Tends to Sometimes Be Too Short For My Preferred Tastes.

I Like Almost All of The Different Genres Music Has to Offer.

I Lean Towards Alternative, Indie, Lo-fi, And Classic Rock.

Haven’t listened to the radio for 10 years. Was using a small CD disk player for years and bought an early MP3 player.
Would rip disks to that little thing 256 mb ???
The rest is history don’t repeat it but don’t erase it.

It’s a shame FM radio is dying. Used to have a sweet modern rock station but that went under. But we do have a wonderful listener supported Christian radio station that I like with no ads.

I won’t listen to that other garbage that are nothing but auto sales pitches. ■■■■ that noise.

Edit. Shortwave radio is fun but that’s dying too. I have a cool shortwave radio that I like once in a while. Works best at night for atmospheric bounce.

What even is FM radio? Is it like regular radio? I don’t think I’ve heard a radio in years.

Is there a non-FM radio?

Is there an irregular radio? Jk! I hardly listen to the radio myself. I’m so spoiled by music streaming apps tbh.
