Is anxiety just an emotion?

I’ve been researching anxiety on the internet and I’ve found tons of websites that say anxiety is just an emotion. Do you agree with that? I find it hard to wrap my brain around it. Anxiety is so visceral, so physical and so primal it’s hard to think of it as just another emotion. But if it is that means there should be away to tolerate it and control it better. If it’s true it’s just an emotion I should be able to master it the way I have mastered anger and jealousy when I was young. Do you think Anxiety is just an emotion?

Yeah I think of anxiety as an emotion(fear and or worry depending on the degree) but I feel my emotions physically. I definitely physically feel anxiety. Panic attacks are very physically felt.

It manifests itself into an emotion in the more complex parts of our brain but it’s real root is derived from our primal more older parts of our brain based on survival and instincts.

That’s why anxiety feels so unbearable when you’re feeling paranoid and stuff, it basically triggers the old part of ur brain, under the guise of thinking your worries and fears are warranted, and makes u feel that intense, really primal way where there’s nothing else you can think about or distract yourself from.

The word describes an emotion, and emotions usually involve physical/bodily sensations. Some people even believe all emotions start with physical sensations. Emotions also affect our thoughts. It’s not easy to define what emotions are because their causes and effects are so many.

Emotions come from that mix of genetic predispositions, personal character and history, experiences and a mix of hormones and neurotransmitters that constitute your psyche. The limbic system, hippocampus, temporal lobes, amygdala, prefrontal lobes, and many other parts of your brain participate by modulating the equation. As a result of all this, and more, emotions appear.

Anxiety is not an emotion. You can feel absolutely nothing but still have anxiety.

I would say it’s a physiological response to an uncomfortable or stressful situation.

I was about 38 the first time I experienced severe anxiety so I wasn’t used to it. So I wouldn’t say it’s in the normal range of emotions. Plus negative symptoms numb you to emotional responses anyway but I still get anxiety.
