Hello. My question is about Invega Sustenna. I’ve been on it for around 5 months now at the 156 dosage. I keep hearing from most people that it works really well. Am I the only one who doesn’t do well on it? I feel a little thought clarity maybe for around four days or so but after that it feels like I’m on nothing at all. I’m paranoid, delusional, and disoriented. Am I doing something wrong? Will this mean that I won’t do well on all injections? It’s really a bummer because most pills I take make me depressed and I don’t feel any side effects with the injection.
The way that each person responds to any medication is completely individual. Some meds work great for some, and are terrible for others. I’m so sorry that it’s not working out for you. I hope a solution that you can tolerate comes along.
I was on the pills, not the shot, but all Invega did for me was make it hard for me form sentences. Weird side effect and it didn’t improve my psychosis even a little. If it doesn’t work after 5 months, it’s probably time to try something new.
I’m on Invega oral, and I had sustained delusions for a year on it. I don’t find it useful for paranoia, but in my past it kicked butt on hallucinations.( But it depends on the neuropsychopathology that is causing the hallucinations.)
Yeah I take Oral Invega and Abilify along with the Invega sustenna. Most of the pills I’ve tried do a good job with the psychosis but for some reason I seem to be really sensitive to them in that they make me soooo depressed. I was really hoping that the shot would do its job but it’s not looking so good.
Let the pdoc know about how you are feeling this time around . Maybe it will improve , if not don’t lose hope eventually they will get it right and I hope you feel better. Sometimes these take time and trial and error.
Hey, I’m also with invega (xeplion is called here in europe), and it took about 8 months to really do the trick, at 5 months I already had dismissed most of my delusions but they still linger from time to time. Just be patient, shots take more time to make effect.
I take 12 mg/day of oral Invega along with 10 mg/day of loxapine. I find the 12 mg/day dose works best for me. It appears that you take the equivalent of 5 mg/day so your dose may be too low. Of course another drug may work better as we are all different in how we respond to these medicines.
Thanks guys it’s good to hear that I’m not the only one who’s had to struggle with it. If this doesn’t work I think I’ll get on something else…maybe risperdal consta and one of the older antipsychotics. One thing about the Invega pills I can’t stand is the weight gain. They really need to come up with more medications that don’t ruin people’s self esteem like this.
@Blizzard how do you like Loxapine? Does it cause any weight gain? Is it very sedating?
Unfortunately the weight gain has been much worse since I have taken the loxapine although the psychosis has improved. To be fair I have been eating and drinking the wrong things lately and since they added lexapro and I’ve accepted the reality of my sleep schedule my diet has improved. So I hope I can turn it around soon.
It really doesn’t sound like that dose is working for you. You need to talk to your doctor about either increasing the dose, or changing medications I think.
Interesting - just checked on the doses - seems you are on the highest dose the offer - is that right?
"In Europe the monthly (every 28 days) injection comes in 50 mg, 75 mg, 100 mg, and 150 mg of paliperidone without the 25 mg injection that is available in the U.S. A "
I was on the shot for 5 months. It didn’t work for me. I’m currently trying to get this poison out of my system. It blocks the dopamine and serotonin receptors. I’m miserable. Oh and you can’t get drunk. I don’t really drink so it’s not a problem but I can’t feel joy, happiness because the receptors are blocked. It’s poison to me. Wouldn’t wish this on my worst enemy. I’ll be happy when it’s out of my system.
I take 6 mg of invega sustenna and a haldol depot. I’m still able to get drunk
