Invega (paliperdone) insomnia

So I have been on this medication about 4 months and they have switched to Olanzapine.

The problem is I can’t sleep, I just close my eyes and sort of pretend Iam a sleep. Although there is no sleep I still manage to get through the day.

Users who have used invega can they tell us if the insomnia will go away after quitting.

I used 9mg and had side effects because of that they lowered it and got insomnia. And because of the insomnia it got switched to Olanzapine 5mg.

And users who got switched to Olanzapine can they tell us if it’s good for sleep because I don’t feel anything from the 5mg.

Thanks.

I currently take 12 mg Invega and don’t have insomnia.

I used to take 30 mg of olanzapine and had no sleep issues as well.

I do have to say that 5 mg is a low dose.

Yes my dose is low. But I wonder if I can sleep with higher one.

I first took a 156mg injection of Invega Sustenna near the end of 2015 then a week later a second injection. I slept fine. Then they put me on Olanzapine (Zyprexa) 20mg and I slept fine on that too. Stayed on Olanzapine for about seven months I think then quit and had insomnia. I would stay up all night until 6am then sleep until the afternoon. That probably lasted weeks or months. In 2019 I got put back on Invega Sustenna and stayed on that at the max dose until 2022 then switched to Invega Trinza and I’ve been sleeping just fine on the Invega injections.

Welcome to the forum! I hope you’ll enjoy your stay.

5mg of olanzapine is the lowest dosage. I’m on 20mg. Sometimes olanzapine is prescribed for insomnia, but I haven’t noticed that it works for insomnia at all.

When I can’t fall asleep I take melatonin. Sometimes it works, other times it doesn’t.

You could ask your psychiatrist.

Olanzapine is for most people sedative so a higher dose should in theory help you to sleep

Since the psych didn’t want to give sleeping pills I bought them myself. Now I watch out with them since you can get addicted to them fast.

I’m on 20 mg of olanzapine, just started a month ago, and i am sleeping 11-12 hours a day, but that could be related more to depression than the meds. IDK. 5 mg is a really low dose.

They want to bring my dose to 10mg. Some people say that’s enough for them.

I have never experienced insomnia on Invega.

Some people on the internet say their insomnia stays, but what do you guys think.

I’m almost done with invega.

Will all side effects go away?

I have bad sleep issues now. I never connected it to invega, but I was on it for 14 years. In the past I switched from invega to zyprexa. I didn’t have sleep issues then. It’s pretty much been since I got on perphenazine. I also think I have sleep apnea so who knows. One thing I would recommend is an anticholinergic like cogentin. I had to have it when I took those newer antipsychotics or I was too restless to sleep.

My doctor also told me it’s not connected to Invega because I could sleep when the dosage was higher. But I got the insomnia when it was lowered! He also told me maybe it’s connected to the lorazapem but that’s also not possible because I started with that after I got it.

Are there any other people who after or during use of invega got insomnia?

I am currently on invega tapering to olanzapine. I have had severe insomnia and my Drs think that invega is causing it. Good luck I hope things get better for you.

If your primary symptoms are under control, I wouldn’t increase the dose of Olanzapine. It is not a sleep medication, that is a side effect of it.

People also take a low dose of Seroquel as a sleep aid, or some other sleep medication altogether.

Is your insomnia resolved now or do you still have it? How long did you have the insomnia?

I have quit Invega completely now but my dr told me it’s not connected to invega. He also said it takes time for the stuff to get out completely from the brain and body.

I have tried Seroquel and it only works sometimes. And they said we aren’t going to up the Olanzapine dose because I have less symptoms now.

I’ve have had insomnia for 4 years. I’m still on it at 3mg.
