Introduction - Female, 37, and Schizoaffective (:

Hi everyone! I’m 37 and was diagnosed with Schizoaffective seven years ago in 2013. It’s been a long ride and I’m proud to say that life is good right now! I moved out of my folk’s house this past June (after a 15-years!) and am now in a co-living, intentional community. It’s awesome!

Currently on disability working on becoming self-employed. I want to start my own Mental Health Coaching business. Offering one-on-one coaching, group support, and classes. Still in the brainstorming and idea phase.**

I’m so glad to be here.

**If you have any ideas of subjects to cover in a mental health class or a support group session, let me know! I’d love to hear from peers in our community!

Now that’s how you make an introduction, folks! Short and straight to the point! I like you already!

@biscuitsandlaughter, if you can put up with my awful, corny jokes…your Schizoaffective affliction will be a breeze by comparison!

Welcome aboard!

You might think about addressing drug and alcohol issues with the sz’s who need it. Also, you might think about coaching Dialectical Behavioral Therapy. It’s fairly involved, but I’ve heard that it works. If I think of anything else I will let you know.

@biscuitsandlaughter, I like your idea but I don’t think you’ll be able to do it like as a counselor or a therapist that conducts therapy groups unless you have a counseling license or a social workers license. And even with a license, you would have to work directly under a psychiatrist or psychologist I think.

As a peer support specialist, you would have to work under a counselor, RN, or social worker. Who themselves would work under a pdoc or a psychologist.

Hello! I’m 36, got sick in 2015. Only had delusions and paranoia for the first couple years. Happy to have recovered partially since then. I’m also on disability but looking to eventually work in the future.
