Insomnia is bad, had a problem, but found a solution

I solved a major problem I was having due to my insomnia. Anyone on this forum that knows me knows I have had a major insomnia problem for months since reducing and quitting olanzapine. I am on 1.5mg of clonazepam for sleep and generally speaking so far it works pretty good. i also take 10 grams of Glycine and 200mg of l-theanine to improve sleep quality.

I go to bed around 11:00pm and get up around 7:00am. Most nights I only sleep 6-7 hours but I will lay in bed for an hour just resting. I try to spend 8 hours in bed, but because sleeping pills screw with your sleep architecture the sleep I do get isn’t the best, like a natural sleep is, so even if I sleep 8 hours on clonazepam its not nearly as good as 8 hours of natural sleep.

The problem is that around 8:30pm I get really tired, but can’t sleep and feel like crap, so I close my eyes and rest until 11:00pm when I then take my clonazepam and then go to sleep. From 8:30 to 11:00pm was really a tortuous experience, when you’re really tired but can’t sleep its awful, then I realized the reason I was always getting tired was because I would have dinner around 6:30 and it would start digesting and hit me around 8-8:30pm and make me lazy and tired, and because a clonazepam sleep isn’t as good as a natural sleep it contributed towards making the problem worse.

So the last week I stopped eating at dinner time and I was no longer tired at 8:30pm. Now I have dinner around 8:30pm and get tired around 11:00pm and go to sleep, problem solved. I feel so much better.

try melatonin… 111441141414

Melatonin is completely useless. I have tried anywhere from 300mcg to 10mg. No effect whatsoever. Here is the stuff I have tried. Clonazepam is the only thing that works satisfactorily.

I’ve tried everything. I didn’t want to go on a benzo (clonazepam) but I became desperate for sleep. My insomnia wasn’t just bad, it was impossible for me to sleep. I would go days without sleep and still could not sleep, not even for a mnute. My brain just wouldn’t go into sleep mode. This all started when I reduced my olanzapine and then quit.

It’s a major problem. When this happened to me I searched “Olanzapine withdrawal insomnia” on Google and read all the websites and forums and there are countless people that can’t sleep after quitting olanzapine. It’s not a problem that effects everyone but it does effect a lot of people.

I slept fine before I was put on olanzapine, and I slept a lot while I was on it, but I can’t sleep at all now that i quit it, unless I take some sort of sleeping pill. I tried Ativan too, but clonazepam works better for me.

pleaser get help from psychatrist or get back on zyprexa olazapine …i used to be on 500mh seroquel it worked at first after time went by nothing worked… now i run on trade mill and do deep breathing excercise …it has helped… still no good sleep …i dont feel refreshed when i wake up in the morning…

Tried that. I have quit olanzapine about 3-4 times in the past and every time I would get insomnia so I would go back on olanzapine, but the last time I quit, I went back on it but it no longer worked for sleep, I even tried going on a higher dose than normally would make me sleep, didn’t work, I couldn’t sleep. Olanzapine no longer works on me for sleep, psychosis or anything else. My first psychiatrist warned me that every time you quit a medication and then go back on it, it can become less effective and you may need a higher dose. Quit too many times and it may not work at all. That is what happened to me.

I appreciate your attempts to help but believe me, I have tried everything. Clonazepam is the only thing thing that works that I have tried so far.

yes but benzo lie clonazapam are addicting and for short tiem use … be careful with it … try herbs like tryprophan lavander valarain root passion flower glycine l theanine… but be careful it might interact with medicine…

I’ve tried herbal remedies, they don’t work in and of themselves. Valerian, passion flower, lavendar, melatonin tried it all, useless. I’ve tried combining them and taking them all at once, didn’t work either.

Sleeping pills alter your sleep architecture,so the sleep quality isn’t as good as a natural sleep. I do take 10grams of Glycine and 200mg of l-theanine along with my 1.5mg clonazepam to help improve sleep quality. it helps improve sleep quality.

Benzos are not “addictive” but you can develop a “dependency” on them. There is a difference between addiction and dependency. I am aware of it, that is why I was hesitant to take them, but after trying everything else I was so desperate to sleep I decided it was worth it. If I am ever able to sleep naturally without clonazepam I’ll just slowly reduce my dosage and ween myself off it.

The general rule with Benzos is to reduce your dosage by 10% of your previous dose very 4 weeks. You can experiment with that based on how you respond. some people can go faster, some slower. That is what I will do.
