Ever since I failed to get my degree I’ve had one. That was over 25 years ago.

Time & action can help. Inferiority feelings, like pain, is one way we know something’s off about our body or mind. Both can be quite helpful signals but also can become problems themselves. First step is to identify the source and decide if there is anything you can do about it–now or for future similar cases. If you’re stuck, a brief case of therapy may help, especially if this feels like a pattern for you.

I have a massive one. I think of myself as a failure at everything all the time. It doesn’t help that I have a twin that is super successful. I love her completely, but it just serves as a stark comparison to how I’m doing. My sister has a successful career already and is completely independent and self sufficient. She has even found a boyfriend recently who came with her home to visit the family, and it seems she found a really great guy that loves her so much. She’s living the dream. meanwhile I’m stuck at home with my parents still in college at the age of 27 and completely dependent on my parents. I am scared of even driving a car, so independence feels impossible. I’ve gotten better about driving, and recently have started driving new places by myself, but still.

It depends on who I am around. When I was in the army I was in a headquarters platoon, with a bunch of mechanics. They talked a lot about things I didn’t know about, and I felt really crushed by it. However, when I start to hold forth on a subject I know something about I can feel really competent. The trick for me is to find a nice compromise.
