I'm tempted to

I’ve been considering taking steroids lately. I’m over sixty, and my body is diminishing. I don’t like the decrepit shape I’m in. But then I start to wonder if I would be happier on steroids. I hear that they give you “roid rage”, where you are really angry all the time. That doesn’t sound like happiness to me. I’m also wondering how steroids would affect my writing. I’d probably start writing a lot of Rambo type stuff.

Rambo/Rimbaud. I can think of worse things.

So much of that type of thing has been written already. I don’t mind it if it is nuanced, and not so much in your face with the muscles. You have to admit that a lot of those guys in those stories are pretty one dimensional. I would take “The Cinderella Man” over Rambo any day. If a story can give a fresh insight into a guy’s character I like it. I liked Mickey Rouarke in “The Wrestler”.

Well, you could always write about Rambo’s little known identical twin, the one who never went to war or developed ptsd. Maybe a retired artisanal soap maker musing over his own mortality. Or perhaps not.

Excess testosterone in the body gets converted to estrogen. Taking steroids without a prescription will likely lead to testicular shrinkage, erectile dysfunction, and breast growth, because you will not be able to accurately measure your dose and will end up unintentionally giving yourself a lot of estrogen. If you feel you have low testosterone, it is best to meet with a doctor and get a blood test done, and then only take the amount of testosterone you are prescribed.

Other effects of testosterone include increased risk of heart attack and liver failure.

Not a good idea.

I don’t think roids magically make you in shape or muscular, most people that use roids are already in shape and exercising/lifting, not including the prescription steroids you get with injuries.

i was reading about steroids just yesterday, but i would never take them. just curious. my old boss used to be big into lifting weights, and he had a t-shirt that said, “no im not on steroids, but thanks for the compliment” haha.

Thanks for the heads up. Also, steroids would be particularly bad when combined with the med’s we have to take.

The Rambo character has been done so much. He’s not a character. He is a formula. That boy scout kung fu expert who is so wonderful you can’t stand it. The sensitive killer. Again I like a movie like that if it can give a fresh insight into the hero’s character. I liked the first Rocky movie, but then Stallone got stuck telling the same story again and again. He found his money maker, and he milked it for all it was worth.

I hate the Rambo character with a vengeance. First Blood was passable, the later films just an endless catalogue of racially motivated massacres.
