I dont know how i could be so good at video games and hand eye stuff but when it comes to driving, i’m just bad. I cant judge where the ends of the car are just from looking over the dash, i can barely make left turns and avoid areas without left turn arrows. Switching lanes is a nightmare.
The whole thing just sucks but it’s something i keep trying to do for better job prospects.
Any tips? it’s gotten much worse since my diagnoses too. Starting to get paranoid of other drivers lol.
I understand worrying about other drivers. The men sometimes send people to follow me and I have to change where I’m going and how to get there to get away from them.
Some of the distraction is caused by anxiety. Try not to look at your phone while you’re driving, and only play music if it helps you. Keep two hands on the wheel. Practice appropriate coping skills before and during the car rides. These can include breathing, singing, and reciting poetry.
I’m a decent driver. Nighttime highway driving is not my favorite. Try to get some driving in in areas you feel comfortable. Slowly include an area that is a bit more challenging. Keep on with that for awhile. Add something new every couple of days. Don’t wait too many days in between.
Also find out if there is an affordable teacher for a lesson or two.
I drive as my job and it is a bit of a nightmare out there, people nearly crash into me all the time. I would just take it slow and give people lots of room. As for the confidence the you just need to get out on the road more.
practice makes perfect. drive slow. leave a lot of room in front of you. don’t get flustered if some one is trying to go too fast. just go the speed limit. go in areas your are familiar with the road to gain confidence as well. be cautious of lights. around here everyone seems to think a yellow means go. heck they think a red is go. take a second before you go at a green light to just make sure that no one is running a red light in the opposite direction… they do it a lot in my area.
try driving in not busy times to gain confidence. if you can overcome your fear. Driving is a privilege and helps with independence too.
Driving is difficult enough for Ordinary people at the best of times, nothing like a video game like you can’t die in a video game, there is no risks playing driving games.
tbh i wouldn’t drive if i was symptomatic, when i was symptomatic i didn’t drive at all, after i became stable enough i took to the wheel,
i’m hoping to ride a motorbike now which could be more dangerous and should never be done if you have symptoms, one turn of the head could destabilise the motorbike.
