I have a really bad fear of the dentist. I think people are against me(including the dentist) and I think they are not going to numb my teeth.
Question: What’s the difference between a dentist and a sadist?
Answer: The dentist has better magazines.
Kidding, kidding, kidding.
He’s there to do his job the best he can. If he was a lousy dentist who delibrately hurt people he would not be in business long. A dentist is a doctor which means he has graduated from all the neccassary medical schooling required to be a dentist and also, chances are that your dentist has years of experience working on patients teeth and gums. You’ll be OK.
My dentist has all the latest equipment and tries to cause as little pain as possible. But the reality is that there will be some pain or discomfort. You just have to accept it.
I’m 59 and I’ve been seeing dentists all my life. My biggest fear is that they will be drilling and slip and hurt me badly. But it has never happened. I get a little scared still; I am afraid they will hit a nerve and hurt me but it has never happened.
My last root canal was almost painless and took way less time than I was used to. The advances in dentistry are amazing and keep improving. Just trust the guy and accept there will be some pain but it won’t be a lot. The chances are 99% that he will numb you properly.
Another reason it is so hard for me to go the dentist, is because I’m dealing with sz already…so it just makes it harder deal with another problem, it just piles up, if you know what I mean.
You going in for a cleaning?
No, I’m going to have all my teeth pulled and I’m going to have to get denchures (spelling). and my cheek bones are infected so I have to get that fixed as well.
Wow, I didn’t know it was that serious. But the guy is a trained professional and deals with many different people. I understand you’re scared, all that work would scare me too but you should be in good hands. It’s just like when you go to a psychiatrist; they’ve seen hundredrs of people and heard it all. Well, a dentist has worked on hundreds of people and he knows a lot of people are scared and he will do his best to make you feel at ease.
Whew, that’s a lot of work. Maybe tell the dentist beforehand that dentists frighten you and he might do something special to accomadate you. You have to have this work done so you have to make the best of it.
Yeah, I have to get it over with. I keep thinking the dentist are in place to help me, not to harm me. I’m going to tell the dentist I have a fear of the dentist. So maybe that will help.
I understand…im fearful of dentists too. Telling them really helps! They are probably experienced in dealing with frightened people.
I needed to have something i found scary done and the dentist was extra careful, soothing and kind after i told him.
Schizophrenia is known to cause bad oral health in a lot of schizophrenics. My schizophrenic friend had all his teeth pulled out. He feel better now.
You should be fine!
I’m also allergic to antibiotics. Maybe the can give me a shot to bypass my stomach, because I threw up terribly and I can’t handle it. I was allergic to amoxiciline I believe. Does anybody know if they have other antibiotics or if I can get a shot?
Thanks Green…15151515
There are different antibiotics. I respond badly to one type, but less badly to another. Maybe you could call them in advance and ask?
I know how scary it is to go to dentist. I have been traumatised by my visits so don’t go until I’m desperate. I have two teeth - or stumps actually - that need to be pulled out, plus a front tooth that’s been patched up twice and is aching.
I feel for you @Jake. Hope it goes well. Peace to you!
I hear that. Perhaps ask for general anesthesia?
The upside of having no more teeth means no more dentists!
When I have no choice but to go I want to get that. I had it when I was 20 and it helped a lot! I’m too traumatised by dentists poking around in my mouth because I have a sensitive gag reflex and I’m terrified I’d get sick. It’s so uncomfortable!
they have to numb to your teeth, so you dont feel pain. Dont worry youll be fine.
