If many psychiatrists say you have schizoaffective does that mean they are right

Just wondering. I wonder if I really have schizoaffective.

If multiple psychiatrists agree then yeah probably accurate. I struggled with that for a while too

Schizoaffective disorder is hard to diagnose because it has symptoms of both schizophrenia and a mood disorder however if most doctors say that you have schizoaffective disorder it’s probably true because what happens is usually they assess you multiple times before a diagnosis is made usually they diagnose you with a lot of different things till they realize that you have a separate thought and mood disorder that happens if I’m medicated I still get psychotic episodes as well to a lesser degree manic while medicated usually hypomania but if the doctor says you have it they have too rule out so many things that I doubt it’s not true

Same thing applies if multiple pdocs say you have bipolar @AwesomeFisherman.

My current doctor diagnosed me with bipolar for the longest time but decided on schizoaffective disorder after further review

I could probably go either way

Yeah and I was told the difference is so minor that it doesn’t matter if you have one or the other there’s no treatment difference you still need antipsychotics and mood stabilizers what’s even more interesting is antipsychotics are mood stabilizers

My last psychiatrist thought I had schitzoaffective disorder, but she was the only one who did. She just retired. And I think she was a little nuts herself, lol. But if a whole bunch of them say that, it might require some thought.
