I got to go to college and work as an architect almost seven years before I got sick…I feel lucky…most ppl that get sz get it so young…sad.
I got it at 22 years old
I was 25. Or I don’t know. I got the post partum depression when I was 25 then came psychosis. But I got to work as a librarian
Well, that’s the reason why I’ve read that women have a better prognosis than men because men often get it at the crucial ages of 19-22 while women tend to get it later at 27-32. If you’re well adjusted before you become schizophrenic you tend to have a better prognosis but if you become schizophrenic at a young age you never develop living skills for adulthood while women have experienced more of life before they get it so they do better. This is simplifying the situation but it’s basically true.
Yeah I got to experience normal childhood and bipolar teenage/twenties before schizoaffective thirties
I wonder what awaits me in the future lol
Seriously though it is a major tragedy for this to happen in high school. I was well insulated from high school due to being mostly mentally healthy during that point. People make a big deal about bipolar but it’s a day in the park compared to schizoaffective.
I got sza when I was 16. That’s when I started hearing alot of voices. I had a psychotic break when I was 19. I was depressed and anxious my whole life. With all of this I am doing well now.
I got it young, they diagnosed me with psychosis at 11 and schizophrenia at 16. I missed years of school and had to be in special ed. as a result i dont know so many things. Also never worked. I think if id been able to work before sz then itd be easier to work now.
You’ve been diagnosed sz since age 16? And on APs?
Yes. Ive been on APs since age 11.
Wowwwww that’s crazy
I’ve been in the mental health system since 1987, but did not get diagnosed sza until January 2015. Didn’t get the proper bipolar type label until February 2022.
Much respect to you irrelevant
I got my first diagnosis when I was 20 years old I’m now 59 years old.
I was placed on Navane, a hard hitting typical antipsychotic
I wasn’t in serious trouble until my mid-30’s
I was functional for the most part until then.
I got to see and do a lot of stuff.
I am glad that I had that time.
I got sz at the age of 33, well I was officially diagnosed anyway. I’ve had emotional problems most of my life.
I started to get it around 19. Had to drop out of college.
On Abilify I had a few jobs and got a bsc degree from university. But now on risperidone 6mg I can’t work, studying another degree is pointless now waste of money. I quit my last job in 2020, graduated in 2019. I have sz since 2012, 22y.o.
I’ve had Schizophrenia all of my life but it got really severe at 15. People thought that I was an oddie.
I got two educations and two jobs before I went mad at age 24’years.
I started getting sick at 16. I was psychotic by 18-19. Spent my 21st birthday in the mental hospital where I was diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia. Crazy times and missed out on a lot of what could have been good times(partying, hooking up, and hanging out with people).
Went into the acute phase in my mid 40s. Was able to build a large business before that. Not much accomplished afterwards. Like you I was lucky I guess.
