I want to live in the wilderness

Deep in the woods. But it wouldnt be fun if it was just me for 20 years. Would need like a hundred of us. Im surprised this isn’t a ‘movement’ or something. I know there are people who live off the grid and all, but nothing like a hunter-gatherer.

I just want a sense of community and connection to nature. I respect some on here believe humans are separate from animals, but i kind of like thinking were no different, just a little smarter (or possibly just more delusional as to think what we do as humans is oh so important).

Idk…houses all around me yet i might as well be alone in the woods. Wheres the life?

Edit: lol, not to sound to depressed. Im not depressed, just have too much time to think about this stuff.

I love off grid living and survival info.

And we are just animals, albeit very smart ones. We’re a great ape, o e that can use amazing tools. So you’re right!

It would be neat to have a Sz.com commune. What if we had our own great pdoc and therapists on a commune?

Does anyone know if there are settlements or communes already doing this in Canada? I would love to at least see how people live. I watched a documentary of this off the grid self sufficient island off of vancouver. But thats not what im looking for. They build there houses with drills and use generators and chainsaws.

Ive been searching online for something but havent found anything yet.

Also its really cool to hear some of you guys are into wilderness survival too.

@anon4362788 as forum mother, do you have any good book suggestions on this subject? And yes i agree, it would be the best to have a sz.com commune :stuck_out_tongue:

I had a log cabin in the woods with a pond and stream, it was a magical place. I used to dream of living there full time and I would have been quite happy but life takes its turns. Here’s a pic

oh wow. I’m forgetful so I don’t remember the names of books I read. I’m sorry. I DO however remember everything I have learned and can answer questions.

There is a site I used to get digital books and forms on survival stuff. I’ll see if I can find it again.

I have those thoughts, sell everything and move to a hippie commune, live off the grid.

Have you read the book or seen the movie Into the Wild? It totally inspired me and one of my friends to do this, we came up with plans to just go one summer and explore the wilderness of Alaska together and live off the land all summer. The plans fell through though, in the end we both had responsibilities we were too chickensh!t to leave behind

I still love the idea though, maybe one day Ill have the mental health and guts to go through with it

One of my Facebook veterans groups had someone who was posting last week about building a log cabin community in Colorado that was off the grid with composting toilets.

It was going to be free for veterans to stay there and they were looking for volunteers to help build the community this summer.

I don’t remember who or what group but I will keep my eyes open for updates.

I’ve always been interested in off grid living, and really want to do it. My biggest challenge would be getting money for land, and then improving my skillset for such a lifestyle. Maybe one day itll be doable.

I think it’s a great idea! I’m glad for you! You’re feeling what it’s like to truly know yourself. For that reason, I see you as a leader! Some people never have original thoughts.

Congrats! I see good things in store for you…

Wilderness Survival for Dummies is an excellent little book. I’ve owned it for years.

Off grid living sounds interesting. I used to fantasize about it as well. I’m pretty sure the U.S. government will still give you land in Alaska if you agree to live on it.

:innocent:

It might be fun for about a week, but guaranteed after that you are going to be craving wifi.
