I want to go back to university

I miss studying and university. I always did, I get A’s in many courses especially physiology and math. I feel like losing my life bcz of sz, I am getting old staying in my bed all day everyday. I want to feel like a student again. I got my degree in physiotherapy in 2019, maybe I can do another degree in psychology or nutrition. I am good in these. But my parents dont want to pay my university anymore and I need to be on Abilify to have less negative symptoms. I am stuck in my bed.

I was on Abilify when I did my degree. I am too old to be in class with 20y.o. students, I am 30…

My ex got her degree in psychology. I would like to go back to college too. My memory isn’t great nor are my non existant study habits. I probably wouldn’t use my degree though it could lead to something.

I have a major b.sc. with a 3.05 gpa, for masters I believe you need 3.3 min.

I remember asking my program supervisor about master/specialization, he said I can redo courses to bring up my gpa to 3.3 but I didnt want to so I just graduated, now its too late.

depends on the school for america. i know you’re in canada. my grades are too horrible for a graduate program. i dont even have a ba/bs. i wouldnt even survive. i have a 3.9 for 3 years at junior college and a 2.9 or something at a UC for 1.5 years. I just assume it’s a 2.9 and my upper division math courses consist of 2 Ps and some Cs. I ■■■■■■ myself. Only good thing is it’s been 9+ years and I had schizophrenia. I could technically turn it into a success story or a turn around and go back to a local school and get good grades and then re-apply and write a compelling essay/story on how i recovered and stuff. I don’t know. I really dont want to do school for the forseeable future…

have you tried edx or coursera? they got classes from top unis covering almost everything.

I took a free course on kinesiology there like my program but didnt finish it. Do you think you will be able to work if you get your degree? I tried and I couldnt even work in a supermarket.

Do you have community colleges where you are? They are much cheaper and you could get an associate’s degree.

No, I am in Canada. I already did college as you have to pass college to get admitted into university here.

I went to community college for a few years when I was in my early forties. It was no big deal. I didn’t feel weird or get any weird vibes off anybody because of my age. As a matter of fact I even took physical education classes like volleyball, tennis and weight training. Got some A’s in some of them too. Some people talked to me and some people didn’t. Some people liked me and some didn’t. I never really worried about the people who didn’t like me.

Whats the use in getting degree if not able to work? I am not against learning but we need to think what we are going to do with the degree certificates which is got by spending money and time. We can still learn many things to keep us engaged like online learning, reading various books etc which not require to spend much money and effort. Even playing games and learning new ideas to play game better useful so we can improve our gaming skills which can be used for playing online games.

My thought is do activities, learn things which can be useful. For example workout, exercise useful as it helps to maintain our bodies.

I got to correct that. I was in my early thirties.

yea it’s hard if your parents need to pay for the schooling. I mean if then at the end you can’t do anything with the degree you managed to get it’s kinda like a wast of money huh.
But if you think you’ll feel better when you go back to school I would do it.

Please do something @anon67051439 I worry if you don’t do something to fight back against your negatives, your life will pass by.

It took me 5 years for me to get my ■■■■ together, so I appreciate the struggle.

Once you force yourself each and every day to get out of bed, and do something with your day it becomes routine.

Literally I have to wake up 2 hours before I leave for work, and I pump myself full of stimulants to get myself in a headspace where I can be productive.

Not perfect, but I hope you can achieve the same. It’s hard, but worth the struggle.

Thanks @Joker, I try to but I tell myself that at least I am better than off meds or when on Abilify. I am not crazy, violent or have addictions anymore. Negative symptoms are a smaller problem than these.

True, but quality of life is an important measure when considering recovery

My recovery is pretty much complete - the only thing that has not happened is re-connecting with people in my local community.

I really wish I had people who were good friends, but they all left when I got clean, and then when I got sick

Community re-integration should be part of any treatment plan
