I want to go down and decrease on the antipsychotic, and introduce a mood stabaliser instead. I am fed up with gaining weight.
Watch out. Some mood stabilizers are also weight gainers. Like Depakote. I don’t know about the others. @anon25873142
Yes you’d probably benefit from taking a mood stabilizer, but I hate to break this to you, all of the mood stabilizers make you gain weigh except for Lamictal.
I’m gaining an enormous amount of weight on Depakote.
If you are not sure which one to take, you better discuss it with a doctor, you could always use Carbamazepine again, my wife has been on that for most of her life for epilepsy, and all the side effects went away after time. It does cause blood disorders, but nothing that a vitamin B complex tablet and a iron tablet can’t sort out. My wife was on it for the whole time she was pregnant and it didn’t harm our child, although you will get prescribed the stronger 5mg tablets of folic acid while you are pregnant.
I’m confused, @anon25873142. I totally get not wanting to gain weight! But the two different types of drugs do two different types of things… ?
I might try that one again, it was weight neutral for me. Lamictal gave me side effects so had to come off @Wave … i really liked it apart from that…
@Pandy I have a mood disorder possibly and Abilify works for mood disorders and psychosis , both. But adding a mood stabliser would only benefit me.
It sucks that even after all those years you still don’t have a solid diagnosis.
You could ask about Lithium Carbonate, the one that you get from a Psychiatrist for Type 1 Bipolar Disorder. You only really get psychotic when you get your medication wrong, like taking Sertraline which often causes problems for people with unstable moods or emotions.
I have tried Lithium Orotate which contains 5mg of elemental Lithium, just one capsule a day is helpful for keeping my mood more stable, and I didn’t have to have any blood tests. But I like my antidepressant and antipsychotic combination of 30mg Duloxetine and 50mg Quetiapine better.
