I wanna quit meds but

I am afraid of psychosis.
but I would like to be meds free for one day at least. I would like to see my mind as it is.
I simultaneously miss & fear psychosis.

This is the schizophrenic dilemma. Some doctors will let patients go off meds one time after they stabilize for a year or so as an experiment to see whether how they handle it. Have you ever gone off meds before? Every time it didn’t end well for me, doesn’t sound like you’re expecting it to either, you just want that rush and adrenaline and fun of psychosis. It’s not that fun though at the end of the day

I think there’s also a dopamine rush you can get when going off aps

I’ve never gone off meds. cos even on meds I have voices or delusions. I am not stable yet. but I miss the all powerful psychotic mind. I am tired of negative symptoms. psychosis could be a break from negatives

dopamine rush? even if you are off meds for a day?

All drugs have a half life and will take time to clear your system. Total time to clear is 5x the half life. So a day won’t do much

I am afraid to quit them for longer than one day…

Yeah don’t do it, the withdrawal will suck too and you could end up worse off

I’ve been told on numerous occasions that quitting the medicines will make treatment harder when you start it up again. Like, you’ll need a higher dose and more time to reach the same effect.
Don’t do that to yourself.

And besides, being psychotic is not healthy, nor predictable. There’s no way of knowing what will happen to you.

I came of my medication in June to see what my base line is like, I only lasted until the second day because the obsessive thoughts in my head were intolerable .
I think people here would advise against it.

I wanna see if I am still crazy. if I quit and nothing happens that means I am cured

That’s the danger of antipsychotics, though.
The symptoms don’t come back right away. The drugs take a while to leave the system, so for a while, you’ll feel good, and then the symptoms will slowly creep up on you again, sometimes so slowly that you don’t notice until it’s too late.

It’s not a risk worth taking.

Besides, you can’t be cured of schizophrenia. Some lucky people have been able to go into remission, but it HAS to be done with a psychiatrist.

And… The fact that you don’t feel “crazy” while you’re on your medicines means they’re working. If it works, why stop?

Any time I try to get off my antipsychotics I end up very out of control, in danger of provoking people to violence. I have a lot of anger in me, but when I am on an antipsychotic it doesn’t affect my behavior, but when I get off an ap, it controls my behavior. It’s very easy for me to start to see the med’s as punishment, not therapy. The next step for me is to get off my med’s, which has brought me to the edge of disaster several times.

ye I know but i kinda miss psychotic mind. it would be the only escape from negative symptoms.

I’d rather have negative symptoms than positive symptoms.

If they bother you that much, you could talk to your doctor about switching to another medicine that gives less negative symptoms. But don’t stop taking your meds. That would be a big mistake.

I’m going to propose that going off ap’s will almost definitely make you psychotic because of the dopamine release they’ve held back. The only way I see doing it at all safely is very slowly with a drs supervision

I’ll ask my doc to lower my dose and try being meds free…
