I think it's fair

I assume my roommate got his cleaning deposit back when he moved out a month ago but I’m not sure. I’m going to ask the property manager who’s responsible for collecting rent, repairs and finding new roommates if I can get part of my ex-roommates cleaning deposit paid to me. I think it’s right because I’ve had to clean the entire apartment to get ready for a new roommate.

List of things I’ve done:

Took down and cleaned the living room and kitchen blinds and window sills and windows.
Washed the kitchen walls
Wiped down all the kitchen cupboards
Cleaned the microwave and under the microwave.
Cleaned all kitchen counters
Cleaned under the sink
Completely cleaned the refrigerator, inside and out
Wiped out and cleaned the inside of most of the kitchen drawers
Cleaned inside my ex-roommates kitchen cupboards he used
Vacuumed living room
Cleaned light fixtures
Cleaned living room tables

Cleaned bathroom including:

Inside of shower
Scrubbed shower doors, inside and out
Cleaned tub, inside and out
Cleaned the chrome fixtures
Cleaned inside and outside of toilet
Cleaned bathroom sink mirror
Cleaned sink
Mopped floor
Cleaned bathroom window and windowsill.
Emptied trash, put new liner in wastebasket

And here’s what else I’m planning on doing:

Scrubbing kitchen floor
Wash front door
Cleaning dust vent in bathroom
Dusting living room furniture

The ex-roommate should have done half of that but I had to do it all by myself except for the blinds.

It’s not inappropriate in this case to ask the property manager if I can get some of his cleaning deposit is it?

It’s worth a shot. Just don’t get your hopes up.

99.95 chance they’re saying no. The time to bring this up would have been during the move out inspection.

Yeah, I think you’re right.

I’m sorry for being a downer here. It’s not fair at all that you got stuck with this, so I think it is still worth asking about.

Yeah, you were right. The manager says I wasn’t entitled to any compensation.
