What did the nurse say? Will you see a doctor? Are they doing a blood test?

I would definetly get tested,

You’re symptoms could just come from being sick.

To get AIDS after being infected with HIV is rarely a shorter time than 5 years I think. Often it takes as long as 10 years. That’s if you get no treatment. But get tested for sure.

Get tested. It’s better to know your status. Nowadays, even people with full-blown AIDS often live many, many years into old age and experience full quality of life. Also get tested for the different hepatitises, as those also can be treated nowadays and many people don’t know they have it. Stress can cause these symptoms, too, as the body and mind really do affect each other, so it could be related to post-breakdown stress. Just get tested.

Get tested. You probably don’t have it, but if you do, early treatment can help. Look at Magic Johnson, he’s got hiv and has for a long time. Eventually, there will be a cure, so just find out and then do what you need to to keep healthy.

Look at it logically. You may be scared and avoid being tested but if it’s really AIDS you will have it whether you get tested or not. Have you heard of the saying “An ostrich with his head in the sand”? Not getting tested will not make it go away. And its your responsibility to get tested whether you are scared or not so you don’t infect someone else.

Yes, I know it’s scary. In 1986 I shot heroin twice with a bi-sexual ex-con heroin pimp addict and his hooker girlfriend who was also a heroin addict. We all shared needles. The guy had gaping sores covering most of his legs. Those two people were every risk factor in the book. This was before ANY drugs that could treat HIV infected people had been invented. Testing positive for AIDS at that time was a guaranteed death warrant to die a slow, lingering, painful wasting away death.

I went in to be tested but they told me it took two weeks to get results. I used to watch the news every night and it was full of images and films showing dying AIDS victims. I fell asleep to that for two weeks, feeling sick with fear. But I got the results back in the mail and I tested negative and it was a huge load off my mind. So I understand your fear. But if you really, really, think you have AIDS then you have to get tested. If you have it, there may be something they can do for you to treat it. If you don’t get tested you may die needlessly when help is available to you.The smart thing is to get tested and get it over with then if you test negative than you can rule that out and forget about it and then that will open the door to finding out what is really wrong with you.

Getting tested is not complicated. You go into a clinic, they ask you a few questions, have you fill out a couple of forms, give you a number and then when tney call your number you go in a room and they take a blood sample which is not terribly painful. It is relatively easy and fast. Good luck. Its scarier to NOT be tested.

You’re in Canada – just call your family doc and get tested. Won’t cost you a penny.

It might be worth them doing a full white blood count as well? What meds are you on?

I’m sure it’s just paranoia. It’s very hard to get aids from heterosexual contact. Besides that’s not exactly how it starts if I remember one of y friends telling me that it’s like a flue and you don’t drop 30lbs right away.

I have been exactly where you are now… your symptoms are likely created by your own paranoia… take the test get the negative result and move on otherwise you will be tortured and it will be worse my friend.

Like someone said earlier, it takes years for AIDS to present itself after contracting HIV. So your symptoms are probably something else. Definitely get tested for STD’s though. I know it’s scary, but HIV is rare, and it will probably come back negative-- then you won’t have to worry. I hope you feel better.

In my past I was really paranoid of maybe having AIDS/HIV, so I took a blood test for it and it came back negative.

It’s better to know your status.
