I started a blog in English

http://luizbrug.com

See what you guys think about my posts. I want to master the English language and writing everyday will help me a lot. Beside it I train how to express myself. I tried to create a video, but I didn’t like it, so I won’t upload it.

I would enjoy your feedback of how I’m writing.

I’m studying English since the beginning of January and I enjoy a lot learning new things about this idiom. I want to master this idiom in order to work as a translator.

If there are translators in this forum, say hi!

Hi, @Om_Sadasiva! How are you doing?

great! its really inspiring that you’re able to master languages even with alogia! how is your alogia if you don’t mind me asking?

I think my alogia is related to the fact that I get many thoughts stuck in my head instead of expressing them. I don’t see it as a symptom anymore and no meds will help me. I just need to be more connected with my emotions in order to express what I’m feeling.

Thank you! I’m studying English everyday. This forum helps me a lot to train it as well. I feel great because I studied for more than 2 hours today. I want to study more, but I need to decide which material I will take. Maybe I’ll study the English grammar (I think Oxford’s materials are good).

i can also express myself, just not as fluently as i would like to. people who see me posting on this forum would no doubt think that im pretty good at expressing myself in writing, but in face to face conversation im just not very sharp or witty or able to draw on my memories and experiences when i speak. im also onlyable to speak and think fluently about a limited range of topics, like you said, mostly things which excite me or which im emotional about. but before sz i could speak elaboratively about just about anything, the thoughts just seemed to come like magic. i recently tried studying introductory arabic, a language i have a tiny bit of exposure to, and found that i was very good at writing, but that the other students were all much better off than me when it came to remembering and producing words. so i’m not studying that anymore, though i’m sure ill get back to it. i just have a serious handicap when it comes to producing words…

Whenever you think you’ve perfected the basics of the English language (And your writing is very well-constructed as is.), this will be waiting for you:

Maybe you should watch some videos of Julien Blanc. A good training that you can do is talking about any topic to a camera or to a mirror in order to become more fluent.

I’m perpetually impressed by people who can use more than one language. This is a cliche, but your english is better than my whatever other language.

I read your blog, interesting stuff. I also wanted to dedicate my life to languages when I was younger, but wasn’t able to go to University by the time I got out of High School. So I try and spend time improving my composition in my native tongue.

Good luck.

Thank you :)! I’m taking a look at The Elements of Style and it seems to be a good book for me to study.

What’s your native tongue? I think languages amazing but I need to keep focusing on just one language in order not to get distracted by the amazing things of other languages.

Oh, english is the only language I know, barring a few words and phrases in other languages. I studied latin in high school for a few years, but it wasn’t the best education in latin I could’ve gotten. I dont remember much of it, but retain some of the knowledge. It’s useful sometimes to study the roots of the languages when expanding vocabulary. Otherwise you’re right not to get distracted.

It’s fascinating you studied Latin! Portuguese (my native language) originated from Latin. What do you want to study? You seem to be very fond of languages.

Yeah, I figured (early in high school) if I was going to take pre-college exams Latin and knowing a root language might help with the vocabulary. It did help me understand words I wasn’t familiar with. Sometimes it backfired, however, and I’d get the meaning of a word wrong. I wanted to learn about etymology, the study of the history of word meanings. but I pursued it on my own time.

If I was going to study any language, it’d probably be Spanish to start, then either German, Japanese, Mandarin, French or Russian. I’m not even sure if Spanish is easier to learn than the others. But if I was gonna learn any first, Spanish would probably be my start, given how often I run into spanish-speaking people around where I am.

I enjoyed your metaphorical description of meditation. Do you do much meditation? I used to a long time ago.

Spanish is very similar to Portuguese, but therr is a lot of peculiarities. You use the grammar correctly in the colloquial speech a lot more in Spanish, while in Brazilian Portuguese we tend not to use the correct grammar too much.

I like meditation and my first attempt was in 2013. I had some befits during those days but I still didn’t meditate everyday. I’m trying to meditate everyday in order to have the real benefits of it. I feel that sometimes when I meditate, I can calm down my thoughts. But it’s not always.

Oh, interesting. Maybe portuguese would be easier if I didn’t have to learn an entire new grammar syntax. I’ll give it a thought, but if I’m being realistic I’m not sure I’ll give myself the time to learn a language. I’m just musing about if I was going to school the kinds of languages I’d want to learn.

I got it. But do you study or pretend to study some subject? Have you got plans?
