I quit my job and I am unemployable

It was too much to take. I was mis-treated on my first day back from 3 weeks sickness and I resigned.

I have no idea what is going to happen now. I am basically unemployable.

I am so screwed.

I am going to lose everything I have worked for

What a waste of time

I’m sorry. Start the process of applying for disability benefits now, because it’s a long struggle.

I have to bankrupt myself first before I can apply.

I don’t believe that is true. In the US, there are special savings accounts you can apply for if you have a disability, that allow you to save over the maximum allowed amount. Maybe something similar exists over there?

I really have no idea about disability.

I will phone my case manager and see if I can get any help

I was nearly in tears earlier

:pensive:

Paging @anon94176359 @daydreamer @anon90843118 @anon80629714 for advice on applying for disability benefits in the UK

And remember, just because you can’t work now doesn’t mean you’ll never work again. You just need to focus on managing your anxiety symptoms first.

Thanks @Ninjastar I just don’t want to lose my home

Im sure you know all this, but, Get your ESA claim form in as soon as possible - with a note from your shrink. And phone the council about your Housing benefit, if your claiming. You dont want rent arrears.

I have a feeling u won’t get esa but good to check first. It would be universal credit. Best to go to ur local jobcentre about that, I think u can even apply there n ask them questions if u get stuck.

U will be asked to attend a health assessment for universal credit

And yea Council to enquire about housing benefit good to Check first but I think that’s under universal credit too.
If u r on pip u will receive an alright cover for housing benefit,

Best of wishes, hope it goes smoothly.

U have work experience now, its not a waste, u can use that in the future to ur advantage if u later feel capable of working again. At least u didn’t get sacked so ull get a good job reference

@FadeToBlack
I don’t think they do backtracking with universal credit housing benefit so best to apply ASAP like @Naarai is saying

Thanks for you help in replying to me.

My case manager is going to call me tomorrow.

Apparently I can withdraw the resignation but my line manager just accepted it by texting me and didn’t even pick up the phone

Ah that sounds harsh.

You know what’s the best line of option

If u feel u even just need a break from any kind of work it’s understandable.

I followed my psychologists advice on what to do to avoid stressful situations and it led to a massive fall out and my conduct being questioned

What was your psychologists advice if u don’t mind me asking?

If people are rude or confrontational towards me, or I am not capable of being reasonable then to put things on hold until I calm down, and then deal with it when I have a clear head and I am not stressed

Is it too late to contact that recent job offer you had? It is not the end of the world, benefits are probably the best thing if you are finding it too much to work. Just google ESA application and follow what it instructs you to do. Did you say you live with your parents? I don’t think you can get housing benefits if so.

The company stopped recruiting as a freeze was put on it

I will have a look - thanks

I live alone and have a mortgage

I think there is support for mortgages. There is a special benefit, I am not sure if it will cover the whole mortgage though. Maybe look at alternatives like selling the house and maybe apply for shared ownership or start renting again. Just keep making plans until you find something that works, that is what I do.

Maybe aim your sights lower and get a new job with less status but also less stress. It’s nice having a professional position and working in a great company and having responsibilities and people depending on you, but even labor jobs can pay OK sometimes. It’s great to shoot for the stars but I’m a janitor and it’s the easiest job I know of and Federal minimum wage is about $10.00 an hour but I make $16.00 an hour. I like to encourage people and maybe a job like janitor won’t be good enough to survive on in your situation. But sometimes we have to swallow our pride and step down a few notches.

I’m not sure, i haven’t much knowledge about the new benefits but you may be assessed separately for PIP (disability benefit) you may not need UC atm bc you have assets but idk.

if i were you i’d listen to your care team and get support from them, i think its more complicated bc you are paying a mortgage and may have assets that go over the savings limit. but i’m not an expert.
