I messed up with my benefits

Basically we have to always update the benefits people when we go over a certain amount of money in savings.

I did always notify them of my current account but not of my savings accounts because I believed them to have like £1 or so in them each. cos I do not really use them. So I mistakenly forgot to notify the benefit people of those accounts.

Now they have been asking for my bank statements of ALL my accounts and then it dawned on me that I have not been notifying them of my savings accounts…even if there is very little money in there, it could make a difference…

So I will have to let them know about that. And be more thorough and less careless now.

I am looking forward to coming off benefits soon at least, so no more DAILY checking of how much savings I have and sending off letters, as I do feel I do not need them anymore soon, going from my continual feelings of improvement in symptoms.

I’m so happy for you that you are ready to work again. That’s really great

Thanks Pianogal.

Yea I am actually excited for that and I decided my paranoia has imroved to the extent that I will be able to do retail. I like that idea

Maybe you will be able to reattempt again in the future but do not pressure yourself when you are feeling symptomatically vulnerable…

The thing is over the years that tiny amount of money has been increasing as well due to it being savings accounts. I need to check how much… :s

This kind of thing stresses me out
Can’t wait to get this whole situation over and done with

why come off benefits? do you think you can work and earn money instead? idk if its a good idea but i wish you all the luck,

btw over here in the uk we are allowed £6000 in savings before money is deducted and i think its £1 for every £250 over that gets taken off, idk if its different now bc i might be out of date.

I really really hope so!! IDK until I try. I mean first someone will have to accept me too so that is another challenge with my poor CV content. I will try to impress them with my dazzling smile :no_mouth:

thanks for the well wishes mrhappy

Personally i would have kept my gob shut and not told them in the first place lol. Isnt the limit 6K now. Cos thats what mum said is all im getting when she passes away - so the government dont stop my money.

Yea the limit is £6k,then they start deducting money.

I mean I didn’t tell them as I forgot about notifying them of my savings account.

But they sent me a letter asking for all my statements from all 3 of my accounts. Then I realised about the savings ones. Ugh such a load of stress. Idk why I couldn’t have been more careful. So now I will tell them.

So just to clarify, they don’t actually stop your money at £6k. They Just start deducting depending on how much savings you have.

I thnkkkk it is £16k when they stop it altogether! Not sure anymore.

Yea soon enough  I will hopefully be ready.

Need to start paying more rent at home and move out at some point.

Also wouldn’t be able to start working just yet cos my dad might catch covid off me. He wants me to stay in the house for now except for walks. Which is understandable. So it works both ways for me and my parents to wait a bit before I start looking for work.

They increased the maximum assets for disability benefits where im from to over 40000 dollars

I assumed you are American because of the U.S. flag tattoo on your lower back.

You know about work trial periods, right?

Are you talking to me? I guess not

Yes, I was talking to you. You can work and still collect benefits.

I’m from the UK. And I will be working full time hopefully.

I can imagine it is the same in the US that benefits are only collected if you are working part time.

I think those people have some discretion in how they handle matters like this. They might just want you to close down your savings account, or they might not want you to do anything at all. It is possible that you get a hard ass case manager who might be a stickler for rules, but I think it is more likely that you’ll get someone with compassion and insight.
