2 pdocs refused to prescribe it to me as they said I don’t have ADHD but in theory should give me more energy since in increases dopamine in PFC. Psychosis risk is very low as it does not increase dopamine in striatum. I am mad that my pdoc prescribed me a more risky med Wellbutrin which increases dopamine in all the brain, it made my sz and anger issues worse. Strattera will not and he won’t prescribe it, ignorant drs that only do what their brain wants and never listen to patients. I will ask my gp to prescribe it eventhough he said no in the past.
Doctors are unlikely to prescribe adhd meds if you don’t have adhd. At least in my country they don’t prescribe it off label.
I wanted my sleep specialist to prescribe me methylphenidate but he didn’t want to. He said it’s only for adhd.
I ordered some online instead. It did help me in the morning but made me more sleepy in the daytime. I slept for a whole week straight while taking them.
Watchout for that, its likely to make psychosis worse.
This was before I was struck with psychosis. Years before.
You’re a smart guy and all, Aziz, but maybe you need to put together a presentation of why you believe Strattera would work for you and share it with them.
Maybe there is something they know that you don’t. Maybe the excess levels of neropinephrine may not be good for you, for example. I was looking at it a bit and it said it affected blood pressure and the heart. IDK. I am not a pdoc or a doctor.
I guess what I’m saying is maybe you would be better off conferring with them and getting their feedback on your theories, if they are willing to take a look at them, rather than assuming they are completely ignorant on the subject.
I know well doctors aren’t always perfect, but , having years of training , they may know something that your missing. And also if they take the time to look at your presentation, and you are correct, maybe there is a chance you can convince them.
OHHHHH…so that’s why I went through hell in the 18 months a former pdoc had me on Wellbutrin and refused to change it…all I knew is I hadn’t felt that awful in a very long time.
The problem is that I don’t have a pdoc. My gp said he won’t prescribe it without pdoc approval but drs online told me he can. I just don’t know why he prescribed me a much riskier med like Wellbutrin which is worse than Strattera for psychosis. Wellbutrin increases both dopamine and norepinephrine although not as much as Adderall and Ritalin.
That really sucks you no longer have a pdoc. You really should have one IMO.
@Bowens
Lack of access to doctors is a huge problem in the Canadian health system. I didn’t even have primary care for almost my last 2 years in Canada. Don’t need to tell anyone how that went.
I need to apply for one but I need to wait 6-12 months. Last time I waited 8 months then after first apt he said i don’t need him as i am stable he closed my folder again. Now I need to reopen it again and need to wait 6-12 months and pass a phone interview where they ask for symptoms severity. My neighbor told me tell them that I am suicidal but I don’t like lying.
Yeah I read that many canadian drs go work in the US as they are paid more and pay less taxes.
I feel good now on huperzine a better than before but I always dream about becoming like before sz where I could work. My pdoc told me its impossible to become that again due to sz.
Probably cuz its the go to med that docs in canada are taught to prescribe. Thats the first med my doc told me to take.
I don’t know if it’s worth the risk to take additional medication. I don’t think it can reverse the AP blocking. On which Symptoms are you struggling? Maybe you can improve yourself improve with new habits or something similar…
I want to be able to work. Ldopa increases dopamine and it surely reversed the AP induced d2 blockade, it gave me energy but also made positive symptoms worse. I think the increase in dopamine will displace the AP from the dopamine receptor.
that makes sense. we can change, i dont want to work it is to much stress for me. i just want to do easy things like cooking meet friends, do sport. more stress means higher dose, that is what my doc says… what are you doing at the time?
I diet, sometimes exercise and go to the gym, take walks, hangout with friends and family almost daily and drive.
Wait for KarXT, in the mean time keep working on fitness and motivation. I know neither is easier, and the avolition may even feel impossible but we can only hope for now.
Im in the same boat. Desperately want to go back to more normal functionality to work bc benefits is hard.
