I made it. 😎

I finished the final draft of my masters thesis to send to the lab director and my supervisor read it. She thought it was, quote, “Quite good, and thanks for putting me in the acknowledgements!”

Im so happy I can finally breathe :exploding_head:

Way to go, that is quite the accomplishment. Are you going for a PhD after this?

I did an honours thesis as part of my undergrad!! Can I ask you what your research was? I’m super curious

@Headspark thanks! I think Im done with academia for now lol I may come back to it in the future but as it stands I barely made it this far lol Im gonna walk away from the table for a bit

@anon2818416 Nice! Are you from Europe? I havent heard of too many undergrad theses in North America

I did my masters thesis at the French Atomic and Alternative Energies Commission and did severe accident studies on sodium fast reactors in a code called SIMMER-V

Basically we simulated the reactor as the core degrades and assess how the mitigation devices that were designed with this particular core with a brand new dense particle rheology model that was put into the code by my supervisor

Dude that’s so interesting!! :open_mouth:

No, I’m Canadian :canada:

I did a qualitative overview of right-wing extremists’ online presence

Haha thanks! I honestly loved everything about it except the writing. Thats why I dont wanna do academia for awhilem long-form scientific writing the the worst to me lol

Oh thats super cool too, did you choose your topic? Online social dynamics is kinda fascinating people tend to get sucked into echochambers on social media. Freaks me out a bit so I dont use it lol

Oh gosh I hated the writing too! Hahaha

Do you think you’ll go on to do a PhD?

Yes, I did pick the topic. This was in 2016/2017 and Trump had just been elected and everyone was talking about right-wing extremism so it seemed very topical and relevant.

Online bubbles for sure. It was also really interesting seeing the differences between groups, and how they used dog whistle terms to appear more legitimate

If they let me take a gap year or two Ill definitely consider it haha my supervisor looks constantly stressed all the time I dont know if Im ready for that. If I ever do a PhD form now on I want it to be experimental work, the theory really is brutal and I want to design some cool experimental gadolinium qbsorbers or something lol my background is in materials science

Ah wow yeah perfect timing, and definitely very topical. Probably even more so now. Well I hope you aced it and I hope I ace this! :crossed_fingers:
