I’m so much happier without social media

I’ve given up on social media for a year now and feel so much happier.

I don’t like the thought that people can just Google me and get my résumé (LinkedIn) and see my picture, info and public posts (Facebook). I didn’t like the streams of information that I was exposed to and the random people trying to friend me.

Now I stick to WhatsApp and this forum.

Are you happier with or without social media?

Yup I gave it up many years ago, I don’t regret it.

I just have this forum and I get a lot less paranoid about being online as I did when still on Facebook. Still do at times but not as bad.

I was never on social media. I don’t think it would be healthy for me.

I need social media. To stay informed and connected. If it gets too noisy for me, I limit my use temporarily.

I only use Instagram and this forum. I deleted my facebook and twitter.

My friend and I both deleted our Facebook accounts because of the constant solicitations. I was on Facebook because of the virtual religious services mainly. I don’t really miss Facebook.

This site is nicer. I was only solicited once (recently) through pm. I reported it to PayPal and haven’t heard from them since.

Over 70% of population is addicted to social media and it aint nothing to do with real life. Your close relationships to other people who you have emotional bond can be counted with one hand fingers and humanbeings has been living in max of groups of five (5). So living with millions of people in metropols full of technology, drugs, mass production and everything aint just natural way of living. More we get more easy more sad we get, our ancestors fighted for every meal, we just sit on computer and earn lot of money and you know the rest.

I enjoy social media, but I’m careful not to use it for news or to follow celebrities. Just using to keep in touch with people who are important to me. Other services I use as free or inexpensive photo gallery hosting.

I feel its like a competition of standards…
Some time when I think of my standard it does not reach my friends… I hate social media only because of me not reaching or making others jealous, every one on their righteous path … And am in wrong path as I drifted a little and fell… ?
If I talk of my illness what I am good at … No one likes it as I am different… Then I say all to be lost in their own righteous path… Who am I to correct this is right and wrong…
Wow I need to sleep I am talking nonsense I think… Just back from work… I better get good sleep…

Stay strong as different person, there is no hope as all those people look just the same - mass producted people without hope, those people has come just like from factory lines.

Members of Alcoholics Anonymous all around the world are using Facebook as part of maintaning a sober support network and finding additional fellowship. Just one example. I have plenty more.

I’m happier, but on the other hand I miss all the pics and updates from my family on Facebook. I can’t be on Facebook because the government is spying on everyone who is disabled to see if they really are disabled. That means if there’s a pic of me smiling, I must not be mentally ill. So they can rip my benefits out from under me. I’m so glad to be done worrying about that. I feel safer this way

I deleted my Facebook account in August 2013. Overall, I think I am happier. Most of it isn’t reality anyways, whether it is news or people bragging about their life or ranting about how their child was mistreated by their school, etc. It made life easier to sift through and much simpler. On the other hand that is when I really started to withdraw more. I also didn’t like the idea that I could be Googled and have info found out about me. My last name is uncommon and I hate that there is only 1 other person in the entire world (easy to differentiate between the two if us) with my same first and last name, it creeps me out. I stayed on LinkedIn so I could stay in touch with former coworkers occasionally but considered shutting it down. Then I took a job in marketing in 2019 where I was required to keep it. Now I had to let some agency take control of my LinkedIn and make it look like I behave in a way that isn’t me. I’m not an attention-seeking person but for the sake of marketing somebody else is controlling the last bit of social media I have left and making it look that way. It’s agonizing and it feels violating.
