I find that I’m really having a hard time understanding things. I hope I’m not getting more brain lesions. I have an autoimmune disease similar to MS but different. But I used to be very smart. In fact, I went to law school on a scholarship (but dropped out). My husband is talking to an insurance agent and I’m not understanding what’s going on. It scares me. I’m dependent on him and don’t know what I’d do if anything happened to him. It’s scary
I guess that’s why the government determined I can’t be in charge of my own money.
I am dependent on my parents as well. They control my money as I cant. My parents fill all the papers. I live with my parents.
what meds are you on? it is not good if they lower your intelligence
I’m on 10 mg of Haldol, 20 mg of Celexa, and 3 mg of Cogentin
I no that the aps can have an effect on your cognitive thinking. I know that I used to be very good at thinking things through, but now my cognitive ability sucks.
Well if it’s the meds, hopefully i will adjust to them and won’t have a problem anymore.
I think you are just stressed out because you are still residually delusional about the men after you ? I wouldn’t worry…you will be fine.
I’m sorry @LilyoftheValley
I’m thinking about you.
Thanks @Wave
Please ask your doctor about cognitive side effects of Haldol.
I imagine that your psychiatrist won’t have any trouble admitting that Haldol can have cognitive side effects. The pharmaceutical industry and the scientists whom they often fund tend to prefer newer, patented drugs, anyway. I like Haldol, but I’ve taken it at only 1 mg per day for years.
I can’t afford the newer drugs. The one I can afford, Geodon, doesn’t help me at all
But I’ll talk to her about it
Schizophrenia can cause cognitive symptoms.
maybe apriprazole /varlyarc, they seems good for cognition, and imo, actually antidepressant are not good for cognition , they just make your numb, and actually may worsen it
I’m very suicidal when I don’t take an antidepressant so I can’t stop taking that. I’m pretty sure I tried Abilify, but I’ll ask my pdoc
I still had cognitive symptoms when I was on Abilify for 8 years. I have always had mild-moderate cognitive symptoms and severe negative symptoms, a few years before my 1st psychosis. I was still good in math though but not in other areas.
I’ll keep that in mind @Aziz
I understand what your going through I’m really dependant on my Mom and don’t know what I would do without her
I’m sympathetic, but I would like to add: Perhaps the ability to focus and think well is stratified in society. There are different types of people. While thinking well is one of the most important things in life, what of those who can’t?
More to the point, I hope the difficulty understanding is a temporary thing perhaps caused by some sort of mental hold on you. I hope you are not having some sort of illness by this.
