The advisor of my physiotherapy program, he was my teacher, asked me to do a specialization like cardiac rehab before graduating but I told him I can’t bcz I have severe schizophrenia. Here’s a copy paste of my email to him:
"Hello Prof.,
I have applied for graduation online and my graduation info was posted on X along with other students the 18 June. I still did not get my diploma. When should I expect to receive it by mail? Who should I contact for it?
I gave up on continuing my studies due to severe schizophrenia. I am not able to do easy jobs or even volunteer. Meds only treat 1/3 of the symptoms, they only reduce positive symptoms, not negative and cognitive ones.
Without my parents I would be in the streets, they are supporting me with everything and I am happy that it wasn’t worse.
What should I tell him if I don’t want to do a specialization, a specialization is required for all students to find work. I have above average grades why shouldn’t I do it? Its a requirement.
I had practical courses like Emergency Care, I did them all. But I worked in a job for students before graduating and I only lasted 1 week. One morning I was scared of going, didn’t go, they called me and they told me I can’t work there anymore and that is unacceptable. I called them to tell them I feel sick but only the security asnwered me to me.
They know what mental illness is and have a positive view on it, unlike others who think I am violent. We had a course on how to train mentally disabled and ill people. We larned that exercise is essential for the mentally disabled and the mentally ill.
