I just had a temper tantrum about money

I blew my cool after the stock market fell today. I didn’t use to care if I had extra money, but having a car and going to the gym cost me and I need a healthy Wall Street for that. I can adjust to not getting out, I’m sure. It just caught me by surprise. And one bad day on Wall Street doesn’t mean the end. One swallow doesn’t make a summer.

If the health of the stock market makes you happy (or not) then you could be in for a bumpy ride !

I can’t say much about the stock market right now, but it’s had a good run from the recent bottom. Could be blowing off some steam or getting ready to go back down. I’m more inclined to think it will head downward

The bond yield curve is almost flat and headed towards inverted. That’s a really bad sign

It did invert

“Treasury yield curve inverts for first time since 2007, igniting recession anxieties“

Abandon ship!

I’m not going to abandon ship, @Moonwalker. My grandfather did that and it was the worst thing he could have done. There was a great inflation in Germany following WW1 and German money was essentially worthless. My grandfather, who had an affluent life and owned a thriving book store ( big deal in those days ) sold it and ended up with nothing to show for it. If he’d kept his assets and had faith that the German economy would survive, he would have been alright.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average cannot move any higher than 27,000 points and hasn’t fallen below 22,000 points for the past year or so. I say when Trump leaves office, the stock market will drop.

That’s a good story about your grandfather and a good point too. However the famous line is “sell until you can sleep”

Whose line is that? I’ve always heard hang on, it’ll change.

Not sure where it comes from

You’re absolutely right @PinCushion. Hang on tight.

I might start shorting again

What’s shorting?

Shorting is when you borrow stock you don’t own and sell it. Then you have to buy it back to cover the short. It’s how you can bet on a stock going down

The stock market is just gambling.

Well, I’ve always looked at the stock market like “Healthy economy equals healthy stock market.”

Everybody has a “system” …

Jeff Bezos, Bill Gates and Warren Buffet would disagree with you.

Corporations issue shares through the stock market based on supply & demand as well as the viability or profitability of the company.

None of these guys made their fortune from gambling on the stock market. Even buffet makes his money through owning an insurance company as far as I know.

I think @anon35453467 is talking about their ideas about the stock market, not about the way they amassed their fortune.
