I hope the stock market's wellness isn't just a bunch of Trump tricks

I mean I’m glad it’s doing well but am also a little suspicious because of the times we’re in.

You got two choices: civilization or no civilization. I know who I’m voting for…

Not a fan of economics but politics is against the rules as you know. Keep it on topic.

Less that 20 percent of taxpayers directly own stocks. That percentage tend to belong to the wealthy class. When you see the stock market overview illustrate rising activity you can interpret that as prosperity of the wealthy class. And they are doing well because of 2017 tax cuts for the wealthy and corporations.

Consider this: 32% of US households didn’t pay their rent or mortage in July. Probably because of job loss. Because of the pandemic. Because we don’t have an overarching plan on the federal level to deal with the virus. The stock market can’t illustrate that because the data isn’t relevant to the average person.

Meanwhile, PERMANENT corporate tax cuts have made them so much extra money they can buy back their stocks to reduce the total quantity and increase their value. Stock market activity certainly doesn’t reflect the wealth of someone like me who doesn’t own stock or have that kind of disposable income.

Does anyone over here invest in stocks?

I have a thrift savings plan with the federal government. I save 5% a year and my work matches it so I save 10%. I think I have about $7000 so far. Only been at it a little over a year.

I had one in the military and had more than that at one time but I spent it already when I got sick and wasn’t working. Had to do an emergency withdrawal.

dad invests my rent money in different stuff. it was doing well like over 10% return on investment before covid, then it sunk during the shutdown and i had lost money. now my account has come back up and my account has grown by $2000. the money is to pay for my house. and i could maybe inherit it as well when mom and dad die, if they don’t end up needing the money. i invest $500 dollars a month.

I invest and trade stocks. The stock market is forward looking by about 6 months. The stock market climbing indicates that the market is forseeing the worst of the coronavirus is behind us and that the economy will continue recovering. This makes perfect sense becasue the vaccines for coronavirus are now coming out.
