I hear a lot about

@Cynnelise, I agree with everyone else who has posted on this thread. I believe it’s very important to stay compliant with your med regimen as long as your pdoc orders it. When he or she wants you to try weaning off of it, then that is the time to wean off of it. No sooner, no later.

All I know is that every single time I have tried weaning my own self off of my meds, I have always gone sideways every time and have ended up in the psych hospital. You can chart it on a graph.

The funny thing about recovery is that we learn how to cope with our voices/hallucinations through whatever methods/means. Medicine acts a guide on this journey. It makes us behave in a way in which we are more compliant and understanding of what we need to do to get better.

Medicine doesn’t just make us better. It triggers our brains to tell ourselves “Oh, we need to do so and so in order to get our life back on track.”

It’s like reliving your life again.

Medicine is like that authority figure (such as a parent) that tells you which way you need to go in order to be healthy again.

for me it was not wanting to rely on a ‘cocktail’ of meds to keep me well

I think i hated the idea that there was anything wrong with me

it’s been a long time since then and can’t be sure but it was all about my identity and not wanting to “be a problem”

It is possible but extremely rare.

I’m an unmedicated SZA which is highly unrecommended and I have symptoms but I do manage.

That said though most people are unable to do this. And any changes to meds should be closely supervised by a psych.

Thank you everyone!

I quit meds a few times and it really messed me up. I never want to go down that road again
