Why medication naltrexone works so well for me. I’ve done my research, I’ve posted on anti-drinking medication sub Reddit’s, told my story to everyone from sub Reddit’s to my pharmacist to my psychiatrist, friends, family, fellow patients, etc… and no one has any remotely similar story to mine.
Well first of all this drug increases my insight a great deal. Everyone tells me I’m some kind of miracle/anomaly or something for what this meds done for me. Maybe has to do with dopamine. When I took shrooms in May of 2014 while on the abilify injection +5 mg pill. and drank alcohol and caffeine too. It messed with my brain chemistry. Chronic panic attacks, anxiety, flashbacks, hppd, etc till I took naltrexone. Maybe it somehow cures me from that?? But it restores me to a point I’ve never been before in my life. Like even a healthy 10 year old, well you can’t really compare me after 19 years. But I’ve never felt this in control of my mind.
It definitely has antipsychotic properties for me BEYOND healing me from a bad drug experience because now I require less abilify than before that bad shrooms trip even. But I can’t find anything on google about it.
Not to mention a thicker skin, this drug has healed my brain, anxiety, mood improved and I don’t drink or crave illegal drugs anymore (which is it’s real purpose).
Truly grateful, it’s been a great fortune to take this med. ps turns out I’m not having diarrhea from it. It was from coffee. And the only side effect I ever had was nausea, which has subsided with more time taking it. It’s a very well tolerAted med in general. Few side effects. I hit the jackpot on this one. But don’t know why. Because no one else can relate so much.

Do you still take naltrexone?

I’ve been taking it every day since December 2015. It continues to improve my mind, specifically cognition at this point, and my doctor wouldn’t try to take me off it with me doing so well on it. Yeah I just took all my pills and naltrexone was one of them.
I need 10 mg abilify also, and Zoloft 50. And klonopin .25 helps too.
I used to take abilify 25 and klonopin 1.0 and was uncomfortable throughout every day before I started naltrexone and Zoloft.
That’s interesting, I would have assumed naltrexone was just a drug used for addiction temporarily.
Are you sure it’s not the Zoloft? Did you start them at the same time?
No I started Zoloft a year and a half later. Although I’ve found Zoloft and naltrexone reduces cravings even more than just naltrexone alone.
Just looked it up and it looks like its an opiate receptor antagonist. Maybe that has some sort of connection to your cognition issues? Like maybe an opiate addictive tendency caused cravings for alcohol and the problems with the bad shrooms trip.
Then again you said it made you feel better than you even were before all that so I dont know man. But hey if it works it works! Glad its helping you, maybe it could help others too

I think naloxone is what blocks opiates. Which is 50% of naltrexone. The other 50% is some other chemical. I’m not sure it’s under prescribed I think if it can help me this much.
I heard it can help with depersonalization which I had bad after the shrooms trip

I’m so glad you’re reacting so positively to naltrexone. While I’ve not taken it, I know someone who has. She put it this way… it took away all the garbage of being on substance, and freed my mind for other things.
I’m happy for you. I hope that things continue this way. It’s really good to hear you sound so hopeful, and positive.
Sending you.
Take care.
