Abilify is activating. It makes some people agitated and restless. You cannot switch off at night. It is meant to accelerate your thought processes, but for some it is unsuitable. It is like rocket fuel when taken with a AD.
Anticholinergics used for Parkinson’s disease will offset some of it. However, it may not be enough to give you respite from the Akathisia.
Do not take no for an answer from your doctor if you are unhappy with your current medication. You have to take it, not your psychiatrist. Explain the side effects and say you will discontinue using it and want another less activating profile of AP.
A bit of trail and error is needed to get the optimal balance of medication for our brains. It is a suck it and see reaction. What may be flavour of the month for one person is distasteful for another person.
Akathisia is dangerous because it can make a person suicidal. The inner locomotion felt when you have it is unforgettable.
Wow, thx a lot. My problem is that i take Abilify with an AD, because sometimes i feel depressed. Also i want to say that i tried 2 or 3 times to commit a suicide, i must thx the Lord i am alive yet, and i think i will drop the AD at least for a while. Also i will discuss with my doctor, maybe she will give me another AP.
I didn’t know that’s what I had when I would walk miles every day. I used to walk 10+ miles a day for a few months it was so weird, I didn’t know why I needed to, but now I know.
Medication makes it hard to focus on things and causes brain atrophy, the restlessness won’t go away otherwise, but walking helps with emotional stability. I’m sorry I can’t help.
Hi @Ben thank you for asking. Since 1 year ago i have never stopped walking every day since then. But i think i know a cure, i mean next week i will talk to my psychiatrist who prescribes me meds and i will ask for another AP, for example Risperidone wich is more sedating. Hope that will help me to switch on another AP
