I have a problem with my kitty

She’s biting. She comes to me for lovings but when I pet her she bites. Not hard but I don’t understand why she’s doing it. It’s not like I’m approaching her, she comes to me. My sister said to pop her on the nose each time and she will learn not to do it. What do you think?

I don’t know. Is she playing or does she seem like she is getting aggresive?

She doesn’t seem to be playing to me but she’s not biting very hard like an attack. It’s like a warning bite. I thought maybe she was protecting her belly because she was spayed recently but I’ve made sure not to go anywhere near there and she still does it.

Some cats don’t like to be stroked. Don’t do it, let her lie there with you. She likes your company, leave it at that.

Probably cos she was neutered. If she does it as an adult, maybe use a small water pistol to deter bad behaviour.

she’s meowing and rubbing on my hands like she wants to be pet

I don’t know leafy. If she isn’t playing, it sounds like something you should discourage.

I let my dog bite me when we are playing all of the time. and it can actually hurt. But that’s a choice I made. My dad does not let her bite him and she doesn’t even try too.

If you say “ow” or something else loudly when she does it she might learn not to do it. That’s what you’re supposed to do with kittens anyway.

Does she tolerate a scratch on the head? Google has “where to pet a cat diagram” indexed. They’re helpful in knowing what areas to avoid.

I wonder if your kitty is experiencing a dental problem. Charles will bite me softly too if I over stimulate him.

She might need her teeth checked. I don’t know if the Humane Society had her teeth checked or not.

It could be over stimulation, she doesn’t bite at first.

Cats give very subtle signs that they don’t want petting anymore. Don’t hit her nose as suggested earlier. But a water spray bottle is ok. But it’s important to not pet her for long because it sounds like she’s getting overstimulated

I don’t like popping on the nose because you can injure if you don’t do it right. I pet with one hand and hold a squirt bottle with the other. Bite = spritz.

Don’t pop her on the nose. Maybe, give her a bit of space, for a while?

Yeah don’t bop her on the nose.
I have a feeling she’s overstimulated.
Let her come to you and don’t pet her for a while.
Some cats don’t like to be petted.
Later you can slowly and gradually gently touch her and if she’s ok with this you can slowly increase the touching until you are petting her again.

Hitting will make it worse. Just pet once or twice, then stop.

Some cats do love bites and will chew lightly on the hand.

If she doesn’t bite at first then I believe it is over stimulation.

Does she sit on your lap or will she sit nearby say on an arm rest or next to you on the couch?

Some cats can be finicky too about the touching.

Cats are predators. Her attacking and biting something moving, like your hand, is an instinctual thing. I suggest withdrawing your hand when she does bite you, however gently, and give her a moving toy to work out her playfulness and biting. Our cats like laser lights on the wall, and the soft caterpillar things attached to sticks. Gives them ways to burn off energy. It’s just playing to her. Just give her chances to exercise. Kittens love to play.

I would suggest petting her for now when she is half asleep or really relaxed. Just a few pets here and there, calm and slow. Then she will associate the calm spots to being calm while getting attention. Then it will get easier when you do pet her, to settle her down.

Also, their energy levels drop as they get older. Just takes them a while to calm down.
