Well first I was changed from schizoaffective to PD NOS which means they think you fit the general criteria for one but can’t dovetail you into a specific PD . That wasn’t too bad as I do have some things that fit to some degrees things like avoidant and schizotypal but I question whether the change to PD on it’s own was the right one
The switch to paranoid PD came later. I first heard about it last year . That I hate, as the descriptions of those with it are so negative and although prone to paranoia I don’t fit the criteria. I think it’s a way of them saying on the surface we are ok with you but deep down we don’t like you very much . It reflects past bad blood and a desire to say it was all my fault as the patient.
I hate my current diagnosis
Who doesn’t? Seriously, who likes being diagnosed with schizophrenia?
I am diagnosed with schizoaffective disorder by my current psychiatrist. I personally do not like the schizoaffective diagnosis - it is a stand alone dx in the DSMV but it is actually 2 different illnesses - schizophrenia and bipolar or depression -
I think that doctors should either diagnose a person with either schizophrenia or bipolar, depending on which symptoms are more prominent. One of my first psychiatrists did not bother diagnosing people with schizoaffective, he either diagnosed you with schizophrenia or bipolar
The paper label on my file has said “Undifferentiated Schizophrenia” for a very long time.
Little by little my doc has been sliding informational pamphlets saying “Schizoaffective Disorder” towards me more and more. He is ITCHING to change my paper label.
Some of me wonders why it’s even important… the other part of me gets a bit more dark…
Why aren’t there more high functioning Sz people about? because when you hit a certain level… they change the label.
So if I keep my Sz label… I’m functioning pretty well for my label… if my label changes… I’m average again. It’s just an odd thought that runs through my head when I’m pondering.
In all actually… compared to what I was like… I’m doing great and it doesn’t matter what the label is… my family can see a huge difference and I’m more independent then I ever have been… so the little paper label doesn’t really matter or hold any bearing on the journey I’ve been on.
Back in the day for me just seeing psychosis as my diagnosis was to much for me. Think it’s just the ego not wanting to see there is something wrong with itself.I also got my psychic file out a few years ago and there is about ten different diagnosis for me. From what I heard since the doctors tend to just notice how we are at that particular time when they see you and form the full diagnosis from the length of time they see you. So much influences why we seem to show some symptoms when we see them and the diagnosis all come down to it’s just a label to categorise in the simplest form. We do it all the time dog, cat, man, woman, child but all are extremely complicated. The best thing to focus on is getting help on the symptoms that are effecting you from having a full and happy life. Stop trying to put yourself in box you can understand as you;re an extremely complicated person that has gone through so much. If you do want to understand yourself there are psychotherapies out there that help in that area and I’m doing one myself as I know i can’t do it alone anymore.
schziophrenia is one of the worst disgnosis someone can get. everyone should qualify for disability on this disease and get free housing but surprisngly we dont. you are literally suffering some kind of stress all day. why shouldnt we be allowed to sleep in and play on forums and ■■■■ how could they possibly expect someone suffering all day to get up and add more with customers or bosses at work
