This thread is like 3 rolled into one. It’s a trifecta. Please no one screw it up!
Darn you, you’re gonna regret that. * shakes angry little fist *
Well, yes.
I’m especially sick of those male singers who make songs for teenage girls where they sing about that girl that ripped out their heart while they sound like they just spent the last 24 hours crying non-stop. wa wa yeah we get it you’re a sensitive guy.
What happened to those songs where people focus on the “you’ll get through this” part of negative emotions instead of “you took out my heart and stomped on it and i cant breathe and im gonna die” kinda music?
I think that started with the 90s boy bands. We have Justin Timberlake and his ilk to thank for that abomination. Then continued by Justin Bieber, and continued by whoever today. I gave up following music after 2005, when I was about 23. Just quit on it.
Admit it, you stopped listening to Lawrence Welk 'cuz you were being triggered by all the sax and violins.
(ba da bump!)
Thank you, I’m here all week. Please try the fish and don’t forget to tip your waitress!
yeah I never really understood boybands.
My favourite songs are all about having fun despite struggles. The one boyband song in my megaplaylist is a song by Five where they literally just sing about getting back up when you get down.
I mean, I don’t particularly care for “I’m angry aaaaaarkjrgdfkgdfjg” kind of music either but at least it’s not encouraing teenagers to cry their hearts out for years over a failed crush
No need to bring my mother into this. Every one knows to steer clear of the fishmarket.
Teen fairy tale love sells. Always will. Just think of Cinderella or all the other “feel-good stories” that exist. Hell, there’s even the Hallmark Channel where people like my wife sit and get mushy over these sappy love stories. Is it sad? I dunno. A little embarrassing if I’m being honest. Eeek.
idk I’m a simp for a good love story, but it has to be well-written, not the standard “boy meets girl and pesters her until she dates him” kinda thing.
I think it’s natural to want to feel good, but I also feel society puts way too much emphasis on the “importance” of being in a relationship.
Agreed. Seems we can’t be individualistic any longer. We have to be tethered to someone to be complete in the world’s eye.
Yes. And it’s like friendships can’t exist anymore between two people who prefer each other’s genders.
Every tv show fanbase has “ships”, where they make up stories about how two characters who are seemingly friends are gonna end up together.
Whatever happened to the power of friendship? To the importance of being able to have someone in your life who likes you for something other than how beddable you are?
It’s been the downfall of more than one TV show. Immediately I think of The Big Bang Theory and how that went from nerdy humor to a rom-com. Dammit does everything have to basically be the same? I might catch some hate for that comment, but I gave up on TBBT fairly quickly after Season 2.
You pretty much hit the nail on the head for me with that comment
omg yes. And that whole deal even in kid’s movies where someone who is fine on their own just so happens to meet someone who is JUST LIKE THEM and they end up together.
Take tbbt, Howard is short. Oh look, he meets bernadette, another shorty. Sheldon is socially inept. Oh here comes his nerdy awkward girlfriend.
And kids movies. Here’s a cool tiger. Oh look there’s a female cat, let’s have them couple up.
Lion King. I kid, partially. I know there’s more to the movie, I’m just being cute about it. This is why I prefer darker movies. Any time there’s a male role teamed with a female lead, it almost invariably documents how their stars align for the end of the movie. Even The Terminator had this happen. It’s so damn predictable.
Yes. And the female is always some spunky kick-ass woman who can’t stand the guy at first, but then he grows on her and they fall in love.
It’s unhealthy to teach people that if you pester someone enough they’ll eventually want to mate with you.
Haha, well put. People wonder how I got so pessimistic. I dunno, today’s existential nihilism that I grew up on. I studied too much Nietzsche and Schopenhauer. I gotta take the doggo for a walk. Catch y’all later!
It’s amazing when a thread can get derailed so many times on one topic
