I feel truly sad (father's health)

My father’s health is becoming worse.
I know our relationship is truly complicated and complex, though I don’t want to see his health becoming worse.
He has diabetes, also suffers from panic attacks. Sadly, I noticed that his memory becomes worse and worse. Also, his humour changed… and his hearing started getting worse and worse.
He is only 58. It’s terrible to see that changes in him are fast, though he is still quite young… I would say it’s diabetes and maybe some other things. I am afraid he will have alzheimers (noticing the fact that his memory is becoming poorer)
I am very afraid he is destroying his life by his own hands - because diabetes + alcohol is a very bad idea…

Maybe these health issues will eventually cause your father to stop drinking. Unfortunately, a health scare is sometimes quite effective at getting people to live more healthy lifestyle.

Some age related memory issues are normal, even at 58. Maybe your father can undergo cognitive testing if it becomes concerning?

Does your health care system promote use of medication to help with alcoholism.

There is underutilization of this treatment in the US. Stigma. Healthcare system not promoting this treatment.

It’s unconscionable

My spouse recently is on ozempic for multiple conditions and was drinking daily wine.

Now he hates it.

It’s horrible seeing your parents old. My 79 year old dad has diabetes and my mum is in a home with dementia
