I can’t do art

Ideally I’d like to do portraits and people and nature and realism but I’m can only do patterns

‘‘Tis not finished. And no where near.

I can’t do people either but can sketch pretty well and paint oils ok. My mind is too loose to do any decent art these days.

What you are doing is art and it’s good! I like what you’ve started there and look forward to seeing the end product. As with all art…it’s what keeps you happy! Don’t worry about anyone else!

I think your artwork is beautiful @anon80629714. It is extremely meticulous with how you layout the geometry so perfectly. It’s amazing how you can do so many intricate steps without making a mistake. You also have a very good sense of which colors go well together.

That’s sweet … there’s a lot of mistakes but because the pattern is growing it’s hard to spot them. Because those details get lost in all the other detail around. If that make sense  plus sometimes if the pattern is difficult I have a pencil and eraser.

Really nice so far, the center looks 3d.

This is how I view art: it’s like water. You can’t say water is a solid, liquid, or gas. Because it’s not, it’s all of those things or none! There is no “right” way to do art, as water takes whatever shape it wants.

If you really want to do realism, just do it! Don’t let anybody, not even yourself, stop you. It’s hard at first, but you’ll get better. You don’t have to do certain art or only do one type of art. You can have many styles! Plus, I really love what you’re doing. I recommend mixing realism with your current art to transition smoothly. Heck… you might really enjoy that! Go with your mind, and just let it happen. Listen to a good song, and let that flow into your fingers. Let your mind do the work.

How I view myself doing art is it’s not me, it’s my brain. It sees what’s there and I just have the hands to make it happen. I see the shapes and the lines, but not everyone is like that, and that’s okay! Everyone does art differently because there is not one type of genius, or type of art. Many types… heck, maybe even start your own technique and style! Art is whatever you want ti to be, go nuts! It’s art, no one can say it’s bad.

My tips for realism:
It might be hard. It might be easy for you. You’ll never know if you don’t try or keep practicing. For me, it took me years to get where I am. But don’t let that stop you, because everyone improves differently, and if you congratulate yourself and award yourself for such good art, I promise you will improve faster. Don’t let art bring you down, build yourself up. And if you’re not happy, try it again. It takes 100 bad pieces to make one good one. They don’t have to all be amazing, what’s important is that you’re getting out of your comfort zone and enjoying it.
Try to work up not even looking at the picture you’re drawing. Your brain will take control and your realism will be more correct if you don’t look. But don’t do that on your first try, unless you want to go wild!
And there’s hundreds of ways to make realistic art. I was so so frustrated for so long because I couldn’t “figure” it out, but what I learned is that you need to learn it yourself. It’s much more rewarding.

(also, if you use your illnesses to your advantage and vent it out in art, it’ll look 100x better  but you don’t need to)

Best of luck! Definitely post your work

Tbh I’ve always to be able to make designs like that, but I can’t, because I’m too impatient and my brain is too fast to sit down and enjoy that stuff. Maybe you’ll have to give me some tips

I’m kind of the same way. I tried painting ppl or animals and it mine look horrible. But I get compliments when I do patterns. It’s so relaxing. I promised myself that I would get watercolors and still haven’t gotten it. But always keep doing it. no matter what ppl may say. It’s so relaxing and it helps the mood.

From a musical artist to a visual artist, I’ve seen your art and it’s really good. That project you have started there looks promising.

I like your pattern a lot. Maybe you could make some money selling some of the patterns you make.

I’ve bp but not sure.

That’s absolutely gorgeous!
I’m terrible at patterns and geometric shapes but I’m not bad with people. Everyone has areas they want to work on. If you want to learn people then practice. They’ll be bad at first but they will get better.

Ps. It’s not that you “can’t” do it, itll just take more time to get that skill set to the level of proficiency as your pattern art. Good luck friend and fellow artist.

That definitely looks like some beautiful art to me. Do what you do best and don’t worry about what you can’t do! You’re a great artist.

The center (of the pattern) has a neat 3-dimensional look and feel to it. That is art to me!
