The music industry has seen an explosion in the number of new songs released each year, thanks to digital platforms and easier access to music production tools43dcd9a7-70db-4a1f-b0ae-981daa162054. In 2023, it was reported that around 120,000 new tracks were being added to streaming services like Spotify every day, which totals over 43 million songs annually43dcd9a7-70db-4a1f-b0ae-981daa162054.
It’s incredible how much the music landscape has changed, isn’t it? Do you have a favorite genre or artist you’re excited about?
Yea and that’s only considering those songs that are actually on streaming services like spofity. It’s easy as pie to get on Spotify these days. It only costs like $20 or something actually I saw an ad the other day it was like $5 for SoundCloud premium which gets you published on Spotify etc.
But if you include songs not officially published but still released on Soundcloud, on YouTube (not YouTube music), Beatport etc… probably multiple times more. People only put their best on Spotify. I’ve never even put anything on Spotify cause I think it’s not good enough yet. Yet I have hundreds of “released” songs
I like indie artists better than established artists and Spotify’s algo always steers you back to the big names. Blah. Youtube is much better at helping me find smaller artists who are interesting.
Yeah Spotify seems to be label driven and youtube music helps to discover more unknown music which is cool. I should do a migrate from Spotify to youtube music.
Back in 2012, several of my musical pieces and videos were on both Spotify and YouTube and three of my pieces got formal recognition by YouTube. In spite of this, I still didn’t “make it” in the music world.
